You know that phpBB3 has gone through a paid security audit prior to it's release and you know that no major security issues have been found in phpBB3 and there has only been 1 release since phpBB3 gold has been released and since VB3.7 got released a while after phpBB3 did there has already been atleast 2 new versions come out which shows they have issues and that maybe it wasn't ready for release and wasn't secure.

I'm aware that most software these days goes through a number of audit checks. I also think you should re-look at what you wrote there. " VB3.7 got released a while after phpBB3 did there has already been atleast 2 new versions come out which shows they have issues and that maybe it wasn't ready for release and wasn't secure."... Are you being serious? We would never get anywhere. Exploits are ALWAYS found... why do you think Microsoft release updates? Maybe they shouldn't of released XP yet? 😉 And how is phpBB more stable? I seriously don't get that. Also, are there even any "big" companies that use phpBB? Hardly likely.

Also, it's quite cheap. Depends what you call as dear... for me it isn't.

Actually, from what I've seen, I've seen just as many "big companies" use phpBB as I've seen them use vBulliten.

Ok then, list them. 🙂
I really don't have a list, its just from what I've seen.

Anyway, Forum Promotion is going to be sticking with phpBB3, so it doesn't really matter. If you would like to debate about vB, then please visit the General Forum Chat board.

Thanks! 😀

Yes exploits are always found but vb have had more problems with their new release then phpBB hence why so many new versions come out. When a software is paid the developers feel forced to release things quickly as if they don't then members will become unhappy and not pay for the software. Because of this pressure they release it sooner where as as phpBB is free there isn't as much pressure to release it as quick. This means they can spend more time to fix everything. Some exploits can't be helped but you can't argue about the fact about the number of releases since being announced stable.

Also a bit stupid to compare phpBB and vb to Windows. Windows is used by millions more people and is more of a target and it is a much bigger and more complex program. As it is more popular there is more chance and more people looking for any small exploit unlike in forums as more people have Windows then own forums.

And why is there more releases for vBulletin? Because they now do "Scheduled Maintenance" releases. 😉 Much better! Also, just because something has more releases than some other software to fix bugs ect, it doesn't mean it is not as good as the other software -- totally wrong!

How is it stupid to compare phpBB to Windows? It's both software that people use, and as I work within the IT field, it was the first thing that popped into my mind. And, you said 'maybe' vBulletin 3.7.0 wasn't ready to be released as 'stable'. That is totally wrong -- exploits are always found. If the software works perfectly well, then you release it as 'stable'. Then, if exploits are found, you patch them -- simple! YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. That is still true to this day.

Lets just agree to disagree. 😉

Goodbye!

awsum !! phpbb3 all the way -D- -D-

Nothing wrong with phpBB. I personally don't use it, but seems to fit this place quite nice. 🙂

I have tried vB and phpbb3, and to be honest I liked and had less struggle working with phpbb3 more. I think it's better for the staff and for users.

My users would kill me if I switched to phpBB or any other software. vBulletin just allows one to do so much.

This is the biggest phpBB3 promotion site 😉

No need to change as i've stated before in this topic.

So does phpBB3 😉

I bet you could do more with vB though.

But its just so expensive. -angry-

You can do just as much with phpBB3 as you can with vB or any other forum software. If I had to guess, their are probably 2 times as many people developing mods and styles for phpBB3, then their are for vB -🙂-
