This is probably one of the most difficult parts of starting a forum - picking the subject of the forum. I have quite a few ideas but all of them, of course are saturated, but I just want to start a forum up for the hell of it. Maybe it will thrive over time, maybe it won't. I understand that a forum almost all of the time must be interesting to you. So I have put some ideas down.
First of all, a General Discussion and Promotion Forum will be out of the window, because, although I like those topics and would love to run a forum such as these, the amount of these types of forums is insane. You cannot beat the types of GD forums that have 100,000 + posts, an active community, etc and same with the Promotion Forum idea. There is no point in competing with the likes of FP because of the fact that members will probably never see a point in leaving such a well established community. Although I have had a few original* ideas for ways of assisting people with their forum and promotion, I don't think that they will remain original for long because they'll be copied.
I really enjoy football, the kind that is popular within Europe mainly* and known as 'Soccer' in the United States. So I was considering creating a forum that is all about Football in real life as well as games about soccer such as FIFA and PES.
I also really like reptiles, I own a leopard gecko and a ball/royal python currently and I'd love to create a new forum that is going to be closer than some of the "premier" reptile forums that are currently out there. Because if you visit one of those, you'll find that 99% of the time you're going to always be somewhat of an outcast and the community seems to be very closed and it's very hard to enter it and become friends with people.
I love rock and metal music too, so I was considering creating a forum that combines the two. But I understand that there is a lot more to rock and metal than just listening to it. There are hardcore fans that travel around the world and attend to crazy events. I of course, only being 16 years of age, have not experienced that at all, so I don't think I'll do the subject justice.
As almost anyone does these days, I love gaming. I especially love the PS4. So I was considering opening a gaming forum that is dedicated just to the PS4 and Playstation.. Although it's once again, probably been done, I would be able to relate to this quite a lot because I absolutely sweat this console and unlike a year ago, some decent games are actually coming out and the gaming industry is belching out games for these "next generation" consoles.
Please note, I do not expect anyone to brainstorm for me and give me genre ideas (because that's not really your job), but I'd just like some input and advice. I'll use my own mind to make a decision in the end. Any input at all would be appreciated a lot.
I can alternatively of course, just focus on helping others with their forums.
