Description: Forum Tips, known for its helpful blog, is now opening up the discussion to every one by having a forum in addition to the blog. Come on by and see what helpful tips you can come up with for some of the other forum admins out there. You might even find some stuff that you find helpful.
Your Name on the Board: MrJohn

"I have bought quite a few of them my self. But he is one of the better designers for MyBB by far." - Taken from your blog. That is an opinion, and you should even say "in my opinion", as you never know, you may cause controversy with someone who's looking to start an argument.

Furthermore, your forum has no content whatsoever, what can we criticise, the lack of effort or what? Not to be rude, but you downloaded a free theme and added a few forums, done. Nothing special, nothing differentiating you from the massive competition. You have not chosen a niche that is easy to get in, I don't see why anyone would choose your forum over the massive forums out there if you have no content and or resources.

The theme you're using is bland, nothing special or interesting about it. You should start off with less forums, fill them up with content and then start creating more forums. No one likes too many forums, it's hideous and takes away from the quality and look of your forum.

Good luck with your forum.

Every forum has to start some where man. Apparently you do not know me well enough, I have had lots of successful forums over the past years. The blog also has lots of helpful information, and that is what the forum is going to turn in to as well. Thanks for your criticism :great:

I know every forum has to start off somewhere, and (once again) not to be rude, but if you've ran successful forums as you say, you should know that if your forum offers nothing different to the already-established forums, no one will join it that will contribute to it. The blog does have helpful information, I never disagreed with that, I just think the forum wasn't planned well enough that you should begin to promote it. Once I've seen your forum, I see empty sections, with a dull theme that bored me.

Thats cool bro. It will get big and have filled forums eventually. I am not looking for great amounts of posts, and I am not looking for a stunning theme. Just some thing simple, the quality content is what I am looking for. That is going to take time. Thanks for the tips.

I'm sensing just a tad of sarcasm (sarcasm intended). Yes, it will take time, but the fact is. What are you promoting? I'm asking a question. People join forums because of content. I don't understand what you're attempting to compel us with to join your forum? Another question. What differentiates you from AdminForums, AdminBB, Webhostingtalk, Digitalpoint, ForumPromotion, TAZ, etc?

Each to their own thoughts. If Mr John wishes to own a forum for it then let him do that. If Mary Jane wanted to make a forum about Spiderman than she can do that.

It's each person's preference.

You should've really built up some posts/content before launching MrJohn, and that has what has put me off right away... Best of luck with it though.

That's definitely true, "each to their own thoughts". That's why I've decided to be the nice one and given unbiased feedback about this forum. I don't want to go around creating a false sense of hope in new administrators, instead, I'd rather tell them straight to their face why their brand new gaming forum using a free theme with 100 forums and 20 posts will not succeed.

I am promoting knowledge on how to successfully run a forum. The content will be there within the next week or so. Helpful articles that will help forum owners make the most of their forum. We are seperated from huge forums because we are going to become a tight nit community, that will have a staff that is top notch. Those other forums are helpful, but this one will be geared more towards helping forum admins make the most of their forum, helping it reach its full potential. Just like the blog is.

I will build content, it is not that big of a deal. I am sure you will come to see the value of this forum for your self.

Many forums are going well with free themes. I know of many that are going so well.

Again am off this topic before TE starts to argue with the truth. Good luck 🙂

The forum is very new. Give it some time. At least a week to get started. Not every forum get 1,000 posts the first day. Forums also don't start off with a lot of forums either.

I am not to worried about it. I have faced criticism before, and I am sure this forum will still be a great one. It is all about motivation and quality content.

Glad I see some ambition in you, that's great. I just wanted to see if you have any idea what you're doing, which you do. That will go far. Only one problem, why advertise this now, you should have waited a week when you had content, out of pure curiosity. I would have joined your forum if it offered me content that was of any use, now I have a non-negative, but neutral opinion of your forum.

Anyway, good luck with your forum, I wish you the best. :great:

-- 21 Apr 2011, 15:23 --

Is that a crack at me?

I have always released forums early, because to me the release does not really matter. I just want to get it out of the way. I all ready have traffic from search engines going to the blog, and soon they will go to the forum. I work for a living also, so I do not have as much time as I would like to put in to the forum before the launch.

Sounds good, I hope you weren't offended by my criticism. I only did it to benefit you. 🙂

I like the look of the theme. The colors appeal to me personally and its clean, the logo also looks decent.

A few more posts may liven up the forum a bit but as you said, quality content takes time. I wish you the best of luck with your forum 🙂.
