Forum Title Drop-Downs

This is more of a question, and if I posted it in the wrong place, I apologize.

What exactly are those drop-downs FP has, that say [open] or [closed], or such as this topic says [SMF] called? Also, can anyone tell me if they are possible in SMF, and if so, what modification? If they know. Any help is appreciated. Thanks guys!
