First Impressions: (15 out of 15)
"Wow this is a big website " was my first impression. I do like the way you have used your CMS. At the first glance, I could not even tell which CMS you are using so good job there.
Site Structure: (14 out of 15)
The best thing about your site structure is the top navigation. It is resourceful and does not have a single useless link, a thing that I rarely see in websites nowadays. Further I have never seen VB forums being used so well. It is masterfully divided into categories, and I can easily go to the forums of my desired area of interest.
The top navigation is so wonderful that I can almost overlook the other shortcoming but, I said, almost. Having such a useful bar, I don't understand why would you need such a messy home page and I don't quite understand the structure of main page. I think you are using blog plugin with a portal plugin. The blocks on the portal are not positioned to my liking. You have already put the forum categories in the top navigation and putting them again on home page makes it just plain messy. I can understand why you have them but, not why right in the middle of the page.
All you need are updates from each category, so why not use the wonderful sidebar widget you have for updates from each category with separate blocks? You can put the updates from each categories in this sidebar widget to make the home page's main section look more clean and still keep the updates from all categories on home page (I will discuss this in more detail later). Also, re-position the affiliates block to the footer section. Everything else is fine by me and yet again I'll praise the top navigation. I don't see any issue with individual forum pages for each category but I do have just one suggestion. Make a separate sidebar widget for each forum page; for example the "Dedicated Host" forum category should have a sidebar widget displaying recent updates from that category only. It has been 5 years since I used VB as admin, so I don't remember if it can be done or not.
Design Quality: (14 out of 15)
I like the theme. It gives your website a more corporate feel, rather than just a forum website appearance. It is not really cool or breathtaking, but it serves its purpose of being fit for its use. When I first visited your site I thought it was website of a web-hosting company, and which will entail a lot of confidence from users in your site. Having said that, I'll comeback to my point that the main page appears messy. There are categories which you already have in your top navigation and putting them again on main page makes it entirely messy, while the rest of page is Lionel Messi
😛 Sorry, could not help but crack joke here, and its quite displeasing to the eye.
Your main page has too much stuff. I would recommend having blog entries, marketplace, affiliates, hosting quotes and trending topics on the home page. Remove the rest, and you will see how pleasing your home page becomes to the eye. If it was any other site I would have said what a horrible design, but since the website focuses on web hosting, SEO and website management the design is of good quality. The logo is a let down for me as it does not go with the website. I would recommend a more corporate and professional looking logo.
Originality: (15 out of 15)
I'll quote from my first impression, "At the first glance I could not even tell which CMS you are using." I have never seen someone use VB in such a way. No matter how you look at it, a forum CMS is just a forum in the end, but you proved it wrong. The idea may not be one of a kind but the way it is presented is unique. I have seen many websites about forum management, web hosting help, SEO etc. but yours is quite unique. Just one thing I have noticed, although your website focuses on all aspects of website management, is that you are focusing too much on just web hosting. And I'd recommend getting a domain name as well if possible.
Overall Mark: (58 out of 60)
My job is supposedly to be a critic but I can't criticize for the sake of criticism and in all honesty I could find only a few things amiss in a very short period of time. Though I may end up not using your site, because I have been a webmaster for like 6 years now and time teaches you a lot. I have come to admire your skills as a webmaster. Remember, no matter how objective a critic tries to be, their opinion is always subjective to their tastes and so is mine. I hope you find my opinions to be of use. Best of LUCK!!
