Another question, how do cookies get stolen?
The most common method is through XSS. Basically, someone sets up a script that takes all your browser's cookies and writes them to a text file on some ftp server. Since you probably won't directly visit this site, the attacker usually uses iFrames and other means to force your browser to open his page while you surf the web as normal. Most of the larger browsers have protection against this.

Don't be hatin'. Crackers are the same as hackers. Do you know what the term 'Hacker' was originally applied to? A person that made an unauthorized change to a object. Now we apply it to mostly Internet crimes, although, every time you make a change to anything without directly contacting the company and asking, you are a hacker. Modders are hackers, and almost every person is. I will also admit that I have done things of this nature, though mostly on my own passwords like I said before. I know people who do this type of thing as a hobby, and yes, they DO have real lives. I could take someone like you per say, and say that you have no 'life' because all you do is make graphics all day. That's probably not true, i'm sure you don't make them all day. These guys don't crack all day.

..and do this thing as a hobby?

Well you see there is the difference I help out other people with my graphics, those lame crackers destroy other people's boards.
But whatever.....

They get enjoyment out of it just as you get enjoyment and satisfaction out of creating graphics. However, this person that is using 'Bluezone777' as a cover up is no typical cracker, he is just another wanabee. There is so much information around the web that provides any 'kid' or person that is pissed off the ways of getting around security on sites & forums. Like Ghost kindly pointed out in a few posts, just keep good in practice security along with reading up on security information & tips around the net.

Hacker has a few context uses. It gets mixed up with crackers, the good sense of hackers are people that are computer lovers and help the web, whereas the bad sense is to hack into systems as such. Crackers are just groups of people that go from chosen sites or random ones and try their hardest to break things.

Also, make sure you have the latests, up to date version of your software.

In case anyone didn't already know, I did not do anything to that board. I do however have a few enemies one of which just got really pissed at me for putting him on a indefinite mod que which stops him from being able to troll all of the time. I imagine that's who it was as he has a few friends all that come from MER( board was directed to that board after it was done) and like to ruin boards for fun. I like if people didn't spread around rumors that I did something when I most certainly did not. It can cause me trouble when people don't know me think I did something in which I really don't feel like spending lots of time cleaning up other people's crap such as these rumors around that can not be proven and can actually be unproven based on the fact I was always an elite on FA and love the place so why woudl I do such a thing to it?

People can tell from the message they put up that it wasn't you. If I hacked a board the last thing I'd put is my name, everyone knows if you're hacking something or thieving something (I wouldn't recommend either) the first thing to do is cover your traces.

Don't worry, I doubt many people actually think it was you. I certainly don't, and will put a stop to any rumours I hear regarding the issue for you ~smile~

Thanks and I know but there is always someone who will just believe everything they read as fact when they really shouldn't. 😛

Many of these people probably don't know me at all and just go by what is being said which leads you to making some foolish assumptions. XD

I still don't get how a password can be guessed. There are a billion choices.
I doubt they just guessed my password.. Someone can answer your secret questions on your email account, enter in some of your account info (address or postal code or zip), ect... Then they are in your email. After that they can make their way to your forum and use the 'Forgot Password' feature. Either that or they could have gotten my password hash on another forum and cracked it. I dont think that was the case because the password I was using on FA wasnt being used elsewhere, at least I dont think I was.

Anyways thanks to me being a daily backup maker, all is back up and running fine, not much was lost so its not that big of a deal. Only the people who logged in and posted within the last day or so would notice a couple of their posts missing. -happy-

Why not use a domain email address over a free webmail?

I dont like squirrel mail / horde (the email providers they provide in my cPanel).

As soon as I saw your name I knew it wasn't you.

I can remember quite a long time ago a forum got hacked and they did the same thing linking to Mad Ads to make it look like you or the other admin did it.

Then use Opera (I love embedding Opera ads everywhere...). It has a built in POP3 email client, which I use to perfection daily. I simply setup all my emails to go threw it, and bam, everything is there all perfect. Since I have a U3 (FlashDrive) version of Opera as well, I can get to my email from any computer in the world, the same as with a free email provider. I rather enjoy it.

@Murder he Wrote (A page back)
Some people are dumb enough to put their most used username, they just want to show off. Not saying that happened here (because from what I read it's pretty clear that's not what happened), but it does happen.

@.Xstinct
Crackers and Hackers do have a 'history' per say of cracking board passwords and hacking media networks. Saying 'those lame crackers destroy other people's boards.' is a general statement, and is a stereotype I rather you not use again if you will. It is no different from another stereotype,a nd can be hurtful, especially when alot of the 'Hackers' and 'Crackers' out there provide things you may not even realize. It is indirectly due to them that the Internet is changing. If they wern't there to find exploits in browsers, would they be updated as often? What do browser makers tend to do to 'hide' an exploit update? They add a new feature as well. Over time this builds up, and creates the modern day browsers. There are many, many more example of this, a small amount of research will turn up amazing results. Try the blog www.hackaday.com and see some of the stuff they do, it's pretty cool.

The hacker can hack a people website with no reason, this is their fun and they just enjoy it... maybe THEY LIKE CHALLENGE... -evil-
