I see that some have went over to it - considering that some major free forum hosts have went down. Anyway, I'm wondering if there is any good reasons why it might stay for good, even if others have went down. Well, how do you think their revenue is - and is it massively threatened by ad-blockers?

As long as it isn't threatened by Tapatalk, then it can stay. Then again, I don't know much else about it, even though I did tinker with it before (but it wasn't really to my tastes).

It's been around for a long time, i don't see it going anywhere but I would put my faith in something like Jcink before forumotion, but that's just me. 🙂

I don't see it going anywhere any time soon either but that's just me.

I have zero knowledge of their revenue or anything like that, but I do believe that Forumotion will have to make plenty of changes if they plan to continue to exist. One of the benefits of Forumotion is having the ability to choose between four different types of software, but none of these software are really anything special with the amount of edits that Forumotion has made to them.... Not to mention they're offering outdated software versions. I assume they're still on phpBB 3.0.#?

Is it actual phpBB 3 or "phpBB 3"? These things sometimes feel so modified that I wonder.

I think Forumotion is kinda going to slip further and further into nostalgia territory as time goes by and generally become less relevant. The longer you wait to modernise, the harder it is to convince to people who are used to the old way sometimes.

I hope they stick around. They were always good at what they do. I remember buying a few from people on here and merging the databases. The process was really simple.

Forumotion has been around awhile, even longer than ZetaBoards I believe. But clearly lasting x number of years isn't a guarantee for continuing to last.

It's never been for me. I tried to use it back when I first got into forums, as a member and as an admin, and didn't like the feel of it on either end. Evidently some people out there like it and use it though.

Forumotion seems to use copied sources of other software - primarily phpBB2 and phpBB3 and merged it into one, as well as it not being updated in a while (I feel some sources of code are from the phpBB2 days and are still unchanged). I see it being around for a while, but eventually shutting down, without any way to properly migrate anything.

I remember when FM put pop-up ads all over their forums, and such. Not a good practice by any means, pretty much a sure sign it is declining.
