Forums closing

Well, my forum never closed but seeing as I am going to be working on it from phpBB, so technically you can say it's closing but it will be re-opening.

I don't like forums that close due to inactivity. I recently closed my forum, but that was due to the stress of being an admin.
I closed BC because I well.... botched up the database. There was no other option but to close it and start again. I do take a poor opinion of forums that close due to inactivity. If the admin is serious, he should be able to bring it through by advertising.

Sometimes people close their sites then open them again a month later. I get many emails each month saying "We are back".

Another thing about this that annoys me, is affiliating with them. You get no word they are closing, and when you find out, you remove their affiliate. Then, when they are back, they come back to you and are like, "hey, remember we were affiliated? Can we affiliate again?"

As far as my opinion goes; I can understand a forum might die and the admin wants to bring it back...or try to. However, it annoys me when a forum dies, is brought back, dies, brought back and so on and on and on. If a forum dies the 3rd time, GIVE UP ALREADY!!

You'll also see on packages that most of the forums you did posts on close up within 6 months of you doing the packages. I went through the forums that I did packages on (because I was going to do paid posting for somebody) and less than 3 were still up. It really makes you feel worthless when you do tons of posts, and the place just folds. Hence why I quit packages team.General Grievous said:

The irony of this is that if that person had been patient enough to just stick it out, and ignore whatever impulse they had for giving up, then that person would have had an active forum by now. I ended up joining 3 different forums by this person, each time them saying that they were going to stick with it, only for them to do the same thing. This person has done this twice more since I've just decided to stop joining forums that even had them as an admin. This person doesn't realize that ultimately, they are the reason for their failure as their reputation for flakiness and indecisiveness precedes them.
That said, I'd gladly take an admin who is determined to make their 1 forum work, even if it includes multiple ressurections, and emails than have the flaky, indecisive type of admin I described in my post.

I see it go on way too much on the Zathyus network especially boards advertised on the Zatyhus news Broadcast. Sometimes they don't even open the board just announce it and at some point just give up on it only to claim they are going to start another board and then do the same thing again and wonder why people quit taking them seriously.
Sometimes people close down forums because they can no longer afford to keep them running. Thats respectable.
If they close them down because of "lack of activity" then create anther forum and then close that one down for the same thing then yeah.. Thats pretty stupid. I agree with Black Angel completely.
