Where do you see forums in 10 years?

This can be answered both generally and for your own forum. 😉

Some small forums with dedicated admins you see today will be huge by then. Forum Promotion will be so big it will slow down the internet. There will probably be much better software's by then and they will probably be really expensive.

I don't think they will. I think they'll keep expanding.

Generally, I think that if they're been around this long already, I think it can last longer.

As for my forum, there's no way in hell it's still gonna be up I'm imagining. 😛

In ten years my forum will be a house hold name! Well maybe not but should be famous I would hope.

It could happen but I don't think they'll die off completely for a good while. I expect they will slowly lose popularity and forumers get older and young people stick to social networks. 🙁

I think eventually forums and social networks will merge and become a massive social-forum where you can do whatever you prefer. IPB already has a lot of stuff for this incorporated into it. Others you can use plugins with to enhance capabilites.

They'll be around, but they'll be a bit different.

I'm sure the same point could be raised 3 years ago as opposed to asking 10 years later from today. And 3 years ago, forums were still active as it is today. I don't think they are going anywhere. I think there will be better control and moderation of spam. It will become more professional and more efficient. It will integrate many of today's APIs and social media to some unknown extent. I think it will become more personal and more open.

Forums would be a thing of the past by then. I believe there would be the beginning of a virtual world in my mind. Not that the internet isn't already one but I mean a real one.

You never know, in the future, a website could be its own virtual world or house with many great things. The world has changed dramatically in the past 10 years. There will be something a lot better than the internet in the next 10 years.
