When using (or even creating) a forum, which type of theme do you prefer more? Light or dark?

Personally, I always go with light forums because dark tends to hurt my eyes a lot. But I've seen some pretty awesome dark forums out there in my day.n 😛

Normally prefer a lighter style, dark ones can be hard to read.

I don't mind either. Darker for reading at night and not straining the eyes too much, but lighter themes generally catch my eye for being well-designed. I've added many dark themes in the past, but currently going through a brighter phase in life.

"Brighter phase in life" Ahahah, I like what you did there.

I like lighter themes, it's more modern and opens up the forum a bit. I like dark ones for certain genre's, especially if it's something based around gaming, but overall I do really like dark themes, it just makes the theme tacky. I find it rare to see a forum with a dark theme that works and is actually stylish without making the forum something that was thrown through a shredder. 😛

I'm a modern dude, online and off.

Normally, I go with a light theme as it is better for my eyes but not too light. I think the theme for FP is very good because it is not too light or too dark and finds a very good balance.

Usually light, but I offer the choice of dark as well so users have a choice.

I usually prefer light - blue or white theme for my websites. They are more soothing to the eyes and are quiet comfortable to look at.

I really prefer light themes on forums. Its easier on the eyes. 🙂

Dark themes for me. They tend to have a lovely blend of colors which work well with one another. Light themes just hurt my eyes a little. 😛

For me, it depends on the niche' of the forum. If you have a forum based on the holiday known as Halloween for instance, you wouldn't use a nice, light theme. You'd more than likely go with a dark theme. That's just one in a million examples I could use. But I think dark themes go best with certain niches' and light themes work best with others.

I prefer dark themes. Light themes really put a strain on my eyes and I can't look at it for a long time without turning the brightness down on my PC.

It depends on the brand you want to project. White means clean and professional. Black is hardcore and intense. White is best for most forums, except forums which would prefer to have a more hardcore feel to them, like gaming forums for example.

To agree what Matt said, light themes are for more professional, clean themes. Such as general discussion, promotion, roleplay, etc. Dark themes are more bitter and excessive themes. In all honestly, I prefer light themes. They give a bright, clean shine to the viewers and members of your forum.

Honestly, I really enjoy darker themes. Generally, they're easy on the eyes and more appealing.
