Forums that copy FP

Hey, what's your take on forums that copy FP? I mean they are really easy to pick out,
they have the same forums, same team names and pretty much don't make an ounce of
difference to peoples forums, what's your opinion about these forums?

Every good forum is copied at least once. This just means that FP has made it. XD

I've pretty much made mine the opposite of FP but i've seen forums that have the same rules almost. :lol:

Just seems pointless to have people coping FP because they are just original ideas and all, I think people assume that by copying FP they are going to have activity, usually thats not the case.

I have got to the point i dont really care now. They always tend to fail. It is good to look at other forums and get ideas and build on them ideas to make them better but copying completely doesn't help at all.

Forums that copy FP close in the next week and are normally forumotion ones. Just need to ignore them.

A lot of people who make a carbon copy of FP have no clue how to run an ad forum. It's because their first forum idea didn't work, and they see the popularity this forum has, and just assume there's will be just as active and popular.

It has nothing to do with actually providing a good service forum, but someone who wants to have an active and popular forum ... and that's usually the motivation behind 90% of newer ad forums being made.

I personally think that it does not matter because no other forum can compete with FP.

It just shows a complete lack of any originality/creativity and those sort of people will never run a successful forum.

I agree with most of you on this one.

But you have to admit, it's extremely hard not to copy another forum. Especially a promotion forum. Your going to end up using the same services and everything, whether you name the teams different or not.

That is a good point but that is why i said it was ok to look at other sites but just take what they do but improve it. Don't copy a service exactly for example. Change the appearance or where it shows and so on just to make it different and better.

As Fowler said, it makes FP look better, because in comparison, it shows we are way better and they move to us.

I just hate forums that do this. They are horrible.

Well it is a problem but should be taken as a compliment. But FP was not the first forum to do all this stuff by the way.

I couldn't agree more. Copies are just that, copies, and will never be able to mirror the original 100%. They are not clones, just copies.

If you're going to go the promotion route, do it uniquely.

To be honest, I have to agree. Forums that copy sites like FP only make the original sites look better. I have noticed in recent months that all promotion forums have been made on Forumotion.

They don't tend to do good.

However, I wouldn't want to only be on FP to promote, so saying no other forum can be like FP isn't of any benefit to you. FP only has 5500 members, not that many, so you are really only limiting yourself.

Some could argue that Admin Zone Forums is the largest. FP just has different services, so its hard to compare.

Admin Zone is just for Admin discussions, right? They are not really promotion oriented.
