To be honest I find this a bit silly. I mean we are there to help create discussions and we get nothing in return.

What are your thoughts on forums that do not allow advertisements in signatures? Even a simple text link.

Their wish really. You don't walk into a Chinese and argue about the rules.

Same thing with the other TAZ thread, their forum, their wish. I don't like TAZ to be honest, i have 0 posts. Member for 2-3 months, but i don't complain about it.

Whatever rules, even signature advertising banned i'm ok with it.

I like to support new communities but have a simple text link for helping out. But I guess board owners aren't thankful for contributions.

I think it's silly not to allow people to advertise in their signatures on forums. What's the harm?

I guess they think people will find a more interesting site.

The point of providing the forum is their end of the deal. They give you a good forum with uptime since you're contributing for a reason, so you abide by their rules.

Some forums are rubbish but I still help out.

This isn't really a matter about me. It's a general talk about forums that disallow signatures.

Yes I know, but your effort should not be wasted if you feel you're not receiving what you put in back.

I feel that's really up to the Forum admins to decide, whether they allow links in signature or not.
Its nothing to complain, because unless its an admin/promotion forum, people should come there with discussions in mind and not for advertising their site.

I feel the same as Kavin. I don't think a signature link has to be given... It is totally dependent on the type of forum it is and what the administrator decides with regards to having users put advertisements in their forum signatures.

I suppose they put that rule in to discourage people from joining who are only there to advertise. I can see the logic in that as they want people who are interested in their content and not in getting their members to spend some of their time elsewhere instead of on their forum.

I think a lot of major forums do this to avoid a lot of ugly stuff in them.

We don't allow signatures for new members but there's a good reason behind it, and it's not because we don't want you to be aware of similar sites. It's nothing like that at all. The main reason we do it is because there's so much harmful stuff out on the Internet, and we don't want people adding a link and then all of a sudden screwing up someone else's computer or Internet connection. I don't like this idea myself, but when it's a concern for safety, then I don't mind.

I don't see the big deal with the ruling to be honest. Not all sites need people advertising their own projects in their sig and some may even question why. Plus some would question why a new person would join for the sole purpose of advertising their project, not the sort of member admins want and they would class it as you as spam.

Eh I'm in the middle. I don't usually care what's in my signature, usually it is a link or two and an image. If it was taken away from me I wouldn't mind.

Being on a forum is a privilege not a right, and it is not something you're being forced to do. I'd go to another place where they do allow sig ads if that is what is more important to you and you don't like the forum in question. There is no need to complain about things you have no need to subject yourself to.

Webmasters are already providing you something in return--the website that you're on, and enjoying.

I agree. I actually don't mind this rule as a whole, really, because sometimes when I join up with a new site that I'm not familiar with, I like to get to know the community and try to mingle a bit before adding my signature at all. This also gives me a chance to see if I'd like to be active in the community or not, so that's another reason why I sometimes wait.

Like I said, my forum is strict on this, but it's not because we're being mean at all. It's because there's so much crap out there on the Internet, that sometimes someone can click a link without thinking, and it's something that could harm or even wreck their computers entirely. That's the only reason why we enforce that rule. If we didn't have to worry about staying safe online, we wouldn't have to enforce the rule at all, but sadly, there's too much out there that could harm you in even the smallest ways possible, so these measurements are there for everyone's protection and safety.

If the forum of a specific niche that I joined to get advice on a certain hobby/interest, I don't mind them banning links.. Im not there to get backlinks or extra promotion, I am there to get advice.
