Just wondering if maybe choosing the blog structure for a 'fad' type niche or subject (such as for an upcoming movie or this year's hottest Christmas gift) wouldn't be a better solution than investing all that time and energy trying to get a forum off the ground. For instance, this year, everyone wants a tablet for Christmas so I'm sure lots of new 'tablet' type forums are popping up. But what if next year, everyone has moved on to a new product? Wouldn't a blog be a better solution?
Part of it depends on the commitment of the webmaster/administrator. Forums take longer and more dedication to become popular, blogs do as well but through different conditions. If a forum admin makes a tablet discussion forum, eventually some of the categories listed on it may become obsolete due to newer technology releases and preferences. But, categories on a forum can just as well be updated or added as a Blog can make updates and additions. So, would you rather be able to administer a forum where the community can actually converse with each other about the subjects and later added subjects, or would you rather post a message on a blog and just have people read it? Both sites can be about the same subject and be popular, but it's the owner's preference on either discussion or informative.
