Forums that steal your name

Don't ya hate it when people steal your forums name? I just found a forum earlier that basically stole the concept of my forum. my forums name is 'Star Wars Lounge' - the person stole that, and made a banner with the theme of a cantina.

No, the name isn't copyrighted..but I would if I had the money. Only problem would be, can't copyright 'Star Wars' ""

Anyone else have this problem?

Yeah I got hacked and my forum got deleted. Then The guy stole my forum name and all the forum names and banner.

I would love for somebody to steal the name of my forum. I dominated the SEO ranks for the specific keywords, so if one were to google the name of the copied forum, it would send them directly to my page.

Though my forum's name was stolen from the band's official forums a while back, but the record label hasn't emailed me yet.

I have never had anyone steal my forum's name, and even if they did, there's no way that they could steal the domain, because we have two: http://www.marie1988.com and a friend of mine has http://www.marie1988.info Although I don't know why we have a .info domain when our forum isn't really an information kind of forum, but oh well.

Not necessarily. The board closed down 4+ years ago, and AFAIK the name isn't trademarked. Nevertheless I wouldn't change it unless legal action (C&D) was threatened. Asking me nicely won't get you anywhere 😉

Not necessarily. The board closed down 4+ years ago, and AFAIK the name isn't trademarked. Nevertheless I wouldn't change it unless legal action (C&D) was threatened. Asking me nicely won't get you anywhere 😉

Uhmmm... Right? You would get deleted due to being hacked? :shrug:

My promotion forum and main site are connected with sorta the same name. If anyone did that they would be going against my Web Surf copyright.

Sure. Would you change the name of your forum because I said that my cousin's name is Marie and was born in 1988 and she wants that domain? Who would?

Nope. Not all boards get copied.

It also depends on the topic of the forum, and how original the title can be. For example I bet there are a ton of forums whose names are "Off Topic" or "General Discussion."

Mine is My Teen Chat, there's already a .com domain for that, so I don't want to copyright it, I might not be able to.

When I ran FA.. I bought the .com .net and .org so nobody would take the name (well on the main domains)
But someone still did make a forumadvertiser.info

Edit: LOL, I guess not. I just tried it and came up empty with a page cannot be displayed error. So who ever had it decided not to use it after all.

I have just added a notice to 'rippers' on the top of every page when viewing source. This includes using the same name or a similar name or taking stuff off the board. 😉

I once had someone copy all the individual forum titles and descriptions of one of my forums. I didn't worry about it too much to be honest. If they have to resort to copying someone else they are not likely to be successful. Also they do say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
