Wasn’t sure if I should put this in the Monetization & eCommerce board as it deals with virtual money.

On FP we have FP$ & I’ve seen other forums that have virtual money set up as well. How does one go about doing that? Is there something to download? What is the real money cost to have it set up? Do you think it increases post count on your forum? Do you need special skills to handle this feature?

I’m on Proboards & as of yet, I don’t know if we have this capability.

There is software for platforms that create currencies and it's usually for a Shop and from what I remember it isn't free. On CH the cash got out of hand too fast and we didn't have enough things in the Shop to use that cash and it became inflated so there was no value. We gave it up when we converted to Xenforo.

For this site, and a number of other forums that use the same exact addon, Forum Promotion uses DragonByte Credits as the base, and DragonByte Shop, to give the ability to have an account shop, that can be integrated with the credit system.

There is one credit addon/plugin on ProBoards, but it is no longer being kept up to date by the developer. It still works though, with most forums that do not have drastically different theme coding than most forums have. https://support.proboards.com/thread/514804/monetary-shop-updated-25th-2015

YES DragonBytes! That's what we used when we had vBulletin. Members had a hard time figuring it out.

That's one of my concerns- inflation.

Never heard of DragonBytes but will research more into it.
It says the plugin is no longer in the library but they may have another one for V6.

That's a downer. I'm not technically inclined so if I did implement it, I'd have to have help. But it's good to know at a later date.
Thank you both for your replies 🙂

Does DragonBytes! work on wpforo? I am using wpforo plugin to create a forum on wordpress.

I'm with Forumotion and they do have "points" that you can earn when you post on a forum. You can call it whatever you want though....

A big upside to MyBB and phpBB, I think, is the points system is free. Nonetheless, there might not be enough free tools to do very cool things, but I could be wrong.

Definitely.

I don't have one set up for my forum yet but I plan to set one up within the next year or so.

I do have this in IPS, although it's a paid feature -- still, I think this is a must if you want to keep your Forum alive, as it offers tons of opportunities for the users to enjoy their estance.

WoltLab and many others (MyBB, phpBB) label the points/cash system as "Activity Points" and it's bundled in, but has to be manually turned on. I think it's kind of beneficial dependent on your forum, and what you plan for others to unlock when they hit a given level set (or what can you offer them once the have X points).

Zach and I added a points shop socialhideouts. We used a plugin called members shop for invision power board. Its a nice feature for members to use the tokens they earn.

https://ffz.boards.net/ I know uses a point system. You could ask the owner on the board when he or she uses.

I meant they have a behind-the-scenes activity point system, which you could expose to make it like a point system without a shop, donating points, or earning them in specific manners (X points for doing Y), but it's not used for anything specifically. MyBB has a rating system that you can use as points if you convert a few things (unless you wanted to do it based on posts/threads).

MyBB: https://community.mybb.com/mods.php?action=view&pid=94 (not supported anymore but probably the best free on out there)
