Some forums that I've visited have only one subforum. And, I've always wondered how these sites can stay very active and keep member interest. Do you think you would ever create a forum that had only one subforum? Also, how many subforums do you think is the right amount?

I'm not sure what you mean with one sub-forum. As far as I know...

----- Sub-forum 1

If that is the case then it's normal if each forum only has one sub-forum, no? I'm the kind of person who dislikes having sub-forums unless really necessary, so I tend to try to make everything as forums only if possible. I don't like clicking too deep, lol. But if it helps make the forum tidy and compact and active, why not?

I'm not positive but I think that's what she means. On my forum that I opened back up, I have a couple sections that only have one subforum, and that's really all that's necessary at times. My biggest pet peeve is when a site has so many sections that it's hard to navigate around and you can't find anything.

I try to have a single forum.

Then again, a site I watch over for a friend of mine has a few completely pointless forums that I made... >_> they did have their uses but now nobody uses them, everybody prefers having discussions on the main forum

I find Subforums to be the "dark alleys" that no one goes on because it's not connected to the main forum.

Usually I have one ow two subforums on the forum itself, I have had more and have been a staff member with board that had 10 subforums on one forum itself. Was pretty weird. 😛

I think she means only having one section in the entire forum. So, instead of having a list of forums on the index, there's a list of threads.

I've seen some very successful forums that only have one section. I've never liked the style myself though. I prefer to see a community have categorization.
