Forums without activation

My forum only requires e-mail verification. It helps somewhat keep spammers away.

I can't stand sites or forums that allow you to sign in straight away. This would just bring in spambots.

Yeah, its a high magnet when they allow you straight in. It sometimes gets to the point where you have to have verification now days because of all the Viagra bots. =\ It's actually sad how marketers have to sell their products now days.

I really don't like it when I have to have an Admin activate my account. I'll usually just leave and never come back. However, it's sometimes necessary if you get hordes of spam bots, or raided by trolls.

E-mail activation is usually what I use almost all the time (except during post exchanges)

Yes, I rarely even return to a forum where Admins have to validate your account. That irritates me to no end.

I know. Email validation I don't mind, instant let-ins I don't mind, but when an Administrator has to activate my account, even if it's a forum I really like the looks of, that is a big turn off in my book. If I sign up and it takes days weeks or even months for an Admin to activate my account, don't even plan on me coming back; it won't happen. I'd rather it be email activation or instant let-in.

This catches me as surprising as most people asks me to keep the 'email activation' down in order for them to post.

I am used to email verification, I don't mind admin verification, I understand some situations really all for those resorts, but if it takes too long for them to activate me I might lose interest in the place and even forget about it.

Mine is currently with not email activation but it is just because right now is small and doesn't call for it.

I would never let people just post.

Email activation is better.

I once saw a forum which was full of spam. I registered and sent the admin a pm to suggest an upgrade to the forum though I never did get a reply.

The forum had less than 12 members 10 of which were spammers.

SMF has many anti spam mods available.

I don't have any activation on my board because Invisionfree does not get spambots as the creator of IF found a way to block them all while not affecting anyone at all. It's pretty nifty to say the least. 😀

The other board I work on is on Admin validation only because there is one pest who feel like raiding it with porno or stealing good people's identities, joins with their usernames and then tries working his way onto staff on forums then proceeds to destroy them. He's either taken down or seriously damaged about half a dozen forums this way.

When you are dealing with ZB boards where backups don't exist then that means a total loss of a forum. I hate having it that way but every time we turn it off he starts pulling his antics again and he has the proxies and constantly changing ip addresses to evade ip bans as well.

I just signed up to a forum that has Admin activation turned on, and I have yet to recieve an email. Doesn't look like I'll be remaining active there. Good thing I'm not there on a post exchange or I would've really been mad.
