ForumSpark Development

Thank you for keeping us updated on what you're doing with this. I created a forum using Forum Spark just to check out what it's like and so far, I like it.

This is amazing. Huge props! This is what Zetaboards 2.0 should have been, but they had to sell to tapacrap!
Honestly? Facts. I've invested far too much money into my current host and they've basically crapped out on me and we've outgrown them. I'm in the process of moving my forum to ForumSpark, already had the mass majority of the data converted over, I doubt i'll be able to find a managed VPS within my budget, either.

What site are you moving to? I'm also having a problem with my host lately, who refuses to upgrade their system on their shared hosting, and I can't afford to go to VPS XD

FS allows as to do what we love to do at a free/paid subscription-based and knowing that everything is done for us

That's my same issue. I've outgrown my shared hosting and their VPS prices are out of my budget. I have most of my data converted to FS, my issue is i'll lose some key features on my site and some posts since posts were made since the migration (probably less than 200 will be lost, not a huge deal) but yeah....at least for now FS seems like the best option in a situation like this.

We can always reimport the last posts. The importer skips duplicates, so you’ll never run into issues like that.

I’m currently testing some new live features for ForumSpark. These are designed to replace parts of our existing polling system, which is currently used for things like notifications and direct messages.

The main drawback of polling is that it can be very CPU-heavy. As ForumSpark continues to grow, that is definitely something we need to keep in mind. By moving these kinds of live features away from constant server polling, ForumSpark can become more lightweight, faster, and more responsive.

It also helps us move closer to the more modern, app-like experience we want to build, rather than sticking too closely to traditional forum software. Innovation is important if we want to stay relevant and remain a step ahead.

Here are some of the live features currently being tested:

When you are viewing a topic and someone else is also viewing that same topic, an indicator will show this in real time (Notice also that we've removed the panel title and added a topic header):

When you are typing a reply in a topic and another member starts typing as well, a live typing indicator will appear.

When you are viewing a topic and another member replies, their reply will automatically appear above the quick reply box. No delays, no page refreshes. It just appears automatically.

When someone is typing a message in the chat dock, a typing indicator will also be shown there:

Live toast notifications will also be available in the bottom right corner:

This is all still very much in development, but it should be available sometime soon. 🙂

Release 1.6.0

I will try not to forget any new features we've now released on ForumSpark. As we are nearing 2.0, we've done some more preparations to make the development easier and break less stuff - we hope. This is a big one. There's a major new feature in Clubs, a member subscriptions system, a realtime layer...

Among many other things coming in the next release, one of those are some sweet changes to the Menu manager. I would say this is the most flexible menu system in any other software I've used, so I'm positive many will appreciate this.

As you can see, there will be much more possibilities in the menu manager, really making it how you want it. I still need to wire a different mobile and desktop navigation, but most of it is there. And some final polishes like spacing, padding, etc.

Menu's are also now dropped down by hover:

I can’t remember what I ate yesterday, but my forum-building memory is strong. 😎💪

Wow, ForumDynamic.... what a memory. My memory isn't as good, I was trying to remember how I was involved with ForumDynamic because it sounded so familiar.

There you have it, I think we merged my forum with ForumDynamic and I became a co-admin. I used to go by HyperActive

It's great to see you working on this project Cedric, I remember co-managing FD with you. I'll definitely sign up and would love to help in any way I can

Yeah, I remember that. Wasn’t aware you were HyperActive. We had a nice run then!

I wish u had kept the Monetization one for free for the paypal only option cause it cost like $20 for me just for a standrad VIP package lol

Sorry? Not sure I know what you mean.
If I want to monetize my forum, I would have to subscribe and become a premium member of ForumSpark, which costs €12/month (about CAD $20). That feels like a lot of money for a starter package. For monetization, I feel it should be available to everyone.
