So on phpbb, there are administrators and you can make certain users a founder me sing they can never be warned, banned, have full power and can do whatever they like basically.

It does mean though that if a hacker gets hold of that accounts password they can take over the board, also any founder can turn against the other or lead founder.

I made this mistake once, and have founder to who I thought was a trustworthy friend, and then when we got 100 members he took over the board and deleted my account..
So who do you give founder to?

I hardly ever trust anyone having full access to the board. I've learned many times in the past that you can't trust anyone on the internet, even if you've known them for a long time.

For that reason, I really only trust people that I know in real life that if they crossed me, I could confront them face to face and do some damage. 😛

I never make anyone a founder unless I personally know them. People usually understand that it's nothing personal, it's just a matter of security. Honestly, if you can't understand that, then I don't want you to be an admin on my board anyway. 😛

Besides, being a founder doesn't really do anything besides provide immunity from other admins or moderators, which really shouldn't be an issue to begin with.

I'm really cautious about who gets founder status and who doesn't. They need to prove to me that they are trustworthy enough to handle the big tasks. However, if I worked with them on past projects, and they proved trustworthy last time and I remembered they did an excellent job last time, I certainly won't hesitate to make them founder again.

The founder IMO is set for just that, the FOUNDER of the board, as in the first person to register it. I look a the founder class in phpBB on the same lines as super admin on Xenforo, IPB and vBulletin. aka, user #1 and user #1 only.

I wouldn't give out the founder status because it can lead to risks and problems. They may end up demoting you or even delete the forum itself if you pass on the power even to someone you know well.

I've granted people founder status on my sites before and not omce did I have issues. Well, I've had some minor issues but they were nothing to complain about and were easily forgiven.

I do not think that should he "handed out." It's a most deadly weapon to hand out. What are the advantages to giving someone else this right? I think the cons out way the pros in this situation.

I use Invision Power Board and as such can use the 'manage admin permissions' feature to restrict administrators to the areas of the ACP they really need. I don't use 'founder' status as a rank, though I know most are referring to root-admin access as founder status.

I agree with this 100%. If you create a forum, you are the founder of that forum. You should never give that position to anyone unless you decide to leave permanently or sell the site. After all, it was your idea to start the forum in the first place.

I don't give out any kind of Founder like status for the simple fact that I don't want to take the chances of them screwing up the forum. Why risk it? The person doesn't need that power of your forum. And if that's what it takes to keep a person on your forum, then they're just up to trouble and shouldn't have any staff powers.

Yikes, I wouldn't give that out to anyone but a founder of the site. I would assume that is the purpose of it, like a super admin.

I barley ever hand out founder, and if I do it's to someone I know in real life as I can literally scream at them 😉

Nice thread Majestic
