FP$ Host?

Not sure if this has been done before but it sounds like a cool idea

You start of a host and charge FP$ instead of $$..

Of course the packages wouldn't be very good (spec wise) but i think lots of people would like this.

I think people have done it before but they have all turned out to be crap. I do not really see a need for this to be done, I could not see why people would pay money to offer services for a form of forum cash.

FP only earns via community donations, premium membership etc; and viglink.

I don't think FP could afford the server costs for something like this seeing as they would have to go with a decent provider and make sure all websites hosted by them would be up 24/7. More work than it would be worth, TBH.

And, I don't think there are many people on the FP team that could actually manage a server.

I didnt mean FP to run one, its just when they pay they pay with FP Cash (then the person running it can buy posts etc.)

For the record, there are free hosts already out there. I can't think of some on the top of my head, but I've used some okay ones in the past. Additionally, FP does offer a domain service, so that could work out if you combine it with your host.

Yeah and what happens if in 2 weeks time you suddenly vanish and all sites go down? Not saying it will happen, I have just seen so many people say that it wouldn't happen and it always did.

If you did this you would have to go with a well respected host and not one of the new ones, as your not just looking after your own sites here.. A lot of people will be pissed off it anything gets messed up or they lose their sites.

The biggest problem is with the extra work load this will cause. There is only so much that can be automated and it will still involve a decent amount of work even when things are working well. It is bad enough when we have hosting issues here. It will be even worse if we have 50 users complaining to us because their sites are down.

On the surface it is a good idea and maybe it is something that at some point we could do on a smaller scale though. We would need to make it financially viable and worth our time.

I think you have misunderstood as well, although FP running it isnt a bad idea it wasnt the aim.

It was someone else runs it, (sort of like post2host but for FP$) i know the plans would be brilliant but it would be good for small sites.

I don't think FP needs this, as they get enough member participation. But my site has a post to host program, and I think it can be a suscessful if a few more people sign up for it.
