If you do not want to use phpbb, I highly recommend MyBB.

That's a good list to choose from, SMF and MyBB are the most popular and the most reliable if you don't want phpBB.

I would maybe try Vanilla, I've seen the support board and used it, it's quite a nice piece of software but isn't advanced as others. Your pick though.

I personally prefer phpBB, however MyBB is a great alternative if you don't want to use phpBB. If your after a simple and clean forum, Vanilla is just that, however is quite limited in some cases.

Just Keep in mind phpbb is not a user friendly admin panel.It's great software if you have time to learn how to get everything working.The rest of list are all good forum software.I would go with either Mybb or SMF.Very easy admin panels.

I prefer MyBB. phpBB isn't so complex, but its a bad one for new webmasters. And SMF isn't so modern in my opinion. So go for MyBB.

I'd recommend MyBB. It's great and very easy to use.
