I want to test something out on a free hosting site using one domain, then, if that works, I want to be able to change the domain to the one I will actually be using.

Sorry for the very basic question, but I have no idea.

It depends on which host you are using and whether they allow you to do so.

However if your talking about the subdomain they give you for example mysite.theirdomain.com them in most cases they won't allow you to change it, so it'd probably be best to create a test domain then once that's all sorted make the domain you want.

(I'll assume that you use cPanel)...

If your host does use cPanel and your main domain works to the public_html folder, then you could either use a Parked Domain or ask support to change it for you.

since your on zetaboards, you can just add the domains then remove them 🙂

or change them

We're looking at adding a blog, and we want to know if we can set up a subdomain to a hosted site for wordpress, without losing the Zetaboards functionality.

Make a webpage redirect to your blog, which is hosted on a subdomain or .net/blog type thing of some sort. You can do that.
