I feel there are a lot of great free games as well, and in terms of PC games, some of the games that I have spent the most hours in were free, and two of the biggest ones were Unturned which was my favorite Steam game for a while and Smite.
I don't think this is always the case, to be honest.
I play a mixture of both paid and free games. To date, I think I have about 250 paid video games in my Steam library, but I haven't touched any of them in weeks. World of Tanks is a great, free game to kill some time and blow stuff up. In the same realm, World of Warships (still in beta) is freaking amazing as well!
The only two paid games I have is Terraria and Minecraft, the rest are all free. I'm not going to spend money on games I'll get tired of and then stop playing, and you would be shocked at how many free games there are that are actually worth playing and are addicting. 😛
I play both but I think I've pretty much come to the conclusion that I might enjoy paid games a little more. Don't get me wrong, I really do love free games, they're great. But recently I've had a good experience with some few paid games out there and would much rather take them over free games. For the most part, I think there's a good few paid games out there that really are worth the money.
I used to play both. But I don't play em much these days. I used to play Fly for Fun or whatever it was called, Final Fantasy XI, and World of Warcraft. I would like to return to WoW, but I'm cheap right now.
It depends on what the game is like. There are some great free games that offer ingame incentives, but on the other hand there are other free games which are Pay 2 Win. I can't stand "free" games that pretty much require spending money if you want to have any chance against the competition. Unfortunately a lot of developers think that offering advantage-bringing items to the virtual store is a great way to make more money. It is, but only temporarily. Once the game has been around for a while, it becomes a huge bar to entry and they lose out on incoming players and revenue.
I can definitely enjoy free games that aren't Pay 2 Win, but paid games are often better. The reason you pay for games in the store is because millions of dollars, or hundreds of thousands, have been invested in the game and console it uses. Simply put, most paid games are of higher quality than most free games. There are exceptions.
I play both kinds, but most 'free' games are too pay-to-win-ey for me to stick around.. The free ones I ended up sticking around for are MMORPGs. I guess paid games don't guarantee quality, but I'm tired of being told that you can play for free just to realize later that it's a freemium.
This^^ When I do buy games I usually try to buy the ones that are cheap. Usually $9.99 is the most I would go if I can for a game online/on my phone.
