free phpBB3 host or host it myself??

I hope it helps you out, learning how to code and install MODs is great, save times so you don't have to wait on other people and also allows you to do what you like where etc. 🙂

I would say, host it your self. There are many free hosts they're not great but I think they are still much better than free forum hosts. Web Hosting Fox is a great free and paid host, they also provide a post to host as well so you might want to to a look at that as well.

I think I'll use them over that one web host.. Anyways, yes I do find learning how to install phpBB3 mods useful and something I wanted to learn for a while. I remember joining a few phpBB3 sites for stuff for support, MODS etc. Should I trust using MODS not listed on phpBB?

The majority of MODs are safe and good, quite a lot of MODs in the MODs in Development forum on phpBB.com though can have bugs in that need fixing because they haven't been validated. Any MOD released on phpBB.com is fine though.

It also depends what sites you get them from but best bet is to stay on well known, popular sites that have good reputation.

While it is true that in development mods have many bugs usually, only because they are in the database doesn't mean they work perfectly. Handymans SEO mod for example is in the DB but it is full of bugs and probably more then any mod in the development forum.
