I would like to know if there are any free VB hosts? Even if it is a sample board to make, I would love to give VB a try!

Yeah I really wish there were. I'd love to have vB on a free host to mess around with.

If there were free vB hosts, vB would lose a lot of money.
Personally, I don't even know why IPB does it. They could make much more if they just sold it straight up instead of offering free IPB hosts.

What vB and IPB should do is give out free copies that are not as secure and don't have a lot of anti-spam.
It would be great so that people could try it out before buying a copy.

They would still make money because as forums get bigger their owners would want anti-spam features and more security.

The only flaw in this idea would be that people would just start to code for the free vB version and would just make it protected against spam and more secure (good enough for an average forum owner at least).

I thought there was demo's you could sign up for? They last 24 hours or so?

Can I get a Trial Version of the software?

Since vBulletin is a "visible source" product, it is not possible for us to offer the full version of the software for evaluation.

You can evaluate the features of the full version of vBulletin with our live demo of the admin control panel, which you can view and test here: vBulletin Demo

(the demo automatically expires after 24 hours)

You can also download a test script to run on your server to see if it's compatible with vBulletin version 3. You can get this script here

As far as I'm aware, Invision Power Services stopped offering software to free hosts when they closed the support (and available downloads) for v1.3. We are now on v3.02 so all the hosts like InvisionFree are using the older generation.

Yes true. But there is not vB free at all 🙁. Buying it is a pain 😛

It means you can't make two forums on the same one license you've bought. Example. Gary makes the forum garysforums.org then decides to add a test forum at garysforums.org/testvb. Everything is fine and happy but then Gary decides to make Gary's Forums 2 without buying another vbulletin license, while he is still running garysforums.org as the forum he has set up with his license as the domain. garysforums2.org is subsequently take down and Gary is left with garysforums.org.

Well no, it means that you are allowed one active copy as your main one and another copy with the same license for testing purposes only. If you ever need to change URL's or use it on a different site you can just change it in the CP.

With that said, it also means you cannot have 2 live copies of the software on two publicly open boards.

Yes, Nathan.

You can have /testvb subdirectory of your forum domain but it must be password protected.

That's just hosting, you have to provide your own VB script. What that really means is it's optimized for VB and the VB script will work 100% without fail on that hosting.

I've searched the Internet for a long time, and I can't find any free hosts for VB. Which is bad, because I've always wanted to create my forum using it. But then I tried phpBB3, and I loved it even more.
