People keep birds in cage, what do you think about it it should be stopped or not ? And why ??:

Yes lets release all those parakeets people have all over the world, lets hope they get to the tropics. Oh and lets release all dogs, cats, hamsters, fish, lizards, snakes.

Well i am sure they get use to it..

I have a big dog and he loves his cage and he considers it his "home". He sleeps in it all the time when no one is home.

I have friends that own birds and that have them put in a cage but they always let them out once in a while in the house and the bird goes back to the cage by itself.

I have a budgie, who spends the best of its day ripping strips of wood of its perch. it is usually in til twelve in the afternoon til night, sometimes it can be out all day, but we leave the door cage open so he can eat his seeds and play with some of her toys. Animals may have the right to have freedom but sometimes some may need to be kept in.

Keeping a bird as a pet is not unethical, provided you treat them properly, and as said in this thread, give them a chance to get out every now and then (though they may need to be watched and need something to prevent them from leaving little surprises everywhere).

The smaller birds were bred for captivity anyways. I dont' see it as cruel or unusual. 😕

Don't you think that was a little rude? Even if I agreed with you, I wouldn't go about hating people over it. Most birds are bred in captivity, and like Gimgak said, what do you propose we do with them once they're free? They ain't gonna be able to make it back to their native territory, and if they do, they've been bred to not know or need the same survival skills wild birds do. I'll agree that keeping a bird in its cage 24/7 with no time to at least wander a room or house is a tad harsh, but hating people over it? The only people I hate are the Westboro Baptists and people who ABUSE animals. This isn't abuse.

Most birds that are currently pets wouldn't last a day in the wilderness. The majority of human dominated birds aren't meant to be in the outdoors.

I have five Parakeets and one Cockatiel. All my birds getting a lot of out of cage flying time. They're well taken care of. They're fed with very healthy diets and organic fruits and vegetables. They have a lot of fun with their toys. I think they're happy.

No bird belongs in a cage. Just because they're bred by humans doesn't mean you have to have one - especially in a cage. Humans should stop breeding birds to be put in cages. The remaining ones should be in sanctuaries with large aviaries (zoo size).

I dont see a problem with keeping a pet in a cage we keep them alive and they entertain us with their antics. besides most pet birds would be screwed in the wild

AKA, put them in a bigger cage, until you people start complaining about cages again

If the animal is happy that's what matters. If they are healthy, well adjusted and don't have behavioural problems. That usually means a happy pet, cage or no cage. And for all the wild and free advocates...the wild isn't always such a happy place.

No, it's called giving the birds a relatively humane place to live out the rest of their days until breeding of all caged birds has ceased.

Most domestic birds consider cage walls to be a sense of security.

And you know this how? Are you suddenly dr dolittle?

It is clear that since birds naturally fly miles, it is best to give them the largest flying space possible.

Doesn't mean you know what they're thinking. Clearly you don't understand what wild birds do.

I don't need to know what they are thinking, their actions speak for themselves.

I love how you twist my words around. I said domestic birds, not wild ones.
