freeforums=bad?

I'm just wondering: why is freeforums.org so looked down upon? I'm hosted with them and I am thinking that is the reason it doesn't have as many posts/members that I think it should. Is there any reason for the hate towards this host so I at least know why it isn't doing so well?

You don't want to start half of the members on this, theres to many rants. Forum Promotion administrators or resigned admins could tell you how sh*t it was. And it's not a software I would or could rely on.

Yep! If your on there, your site doesn't really belong to you in a way.

Get free hosting that isn't on a free forums host.

well, i've been looking around and asking questions, and the only way i can find that allows you to move your forum from freeforums.org without losing everything is to

A) Buy a copy of your database for 30$
or
B) Buy advanced hosting

We started off hosted by them and many members came from that host and come from forums hosted around that host.

They used to offer terrible service (and still do really). They had a dataloss and lost alot of data and forums. When we were hosted by them, the forum used to be down for hours at a time and when it was working it was terribly slow. They lie alot to members and ban people from pointing out their lies, their forums are covered with ads. During registration users get loads of ads shoved in their faces (well they last time i signed up at on anyway). Basically they are terrible all over. There are some people here that can say alot worse things then me.

PS. When you get advanced hosting, your forums gets set up for you on hostgator (well ours did anyway).

Through freeforums it does since you're using their aff link for hostgator if you do it through them.

Have you ever used a different host? It is like comparing 100 bucks to 100,000,000 bucks. Both aren't bad, but in comparison one is infinitely better than the other. While you may not find much wrong with it until digging very deep, if you have experienced another service like a normal web host, then you will know that one is miles better than the other.

It's just you should never go with remotely-hosted forum software.

It's much less flexible than self-hosted software in the sense that you cannot install modifications or themes, most of the time (when there are, they're ridiculously basic). Most of them also force ads, mostly on the places you don't want them on. Really, promotion forums don't represent the world. If you were to ask random people about how this forum looks, they'd have different responses than us. To be quite frank, there's nothing really special-looking in your forums. The theme is meh, and your titles and topics are pretty plain. Give some alternative name to it, perhaps.

Mind you, do you honestly think it's too late to start over? You're only on 400 posts. I would never think it'd be a problem starting over on just that. Your members will understand if you move to self-hosting.
