VERY IMPORTANT

This is only really aimed at freeforums.org members.

If you have recieved a email claiming to be from freeforums.org then it is a scam!!!

The scam email is as follows from [email protected] (cant even spell division right):
Dear Fowler.
Our records show that you have completed enough offers to recieve a TLD (yourdomain.com), or advanced hosting.
You can read more about the 'Free Upgrades' in our support forum.
http://forum.freeforums.org/viewforum.php?f=10
This is the direct link to the 'Free Upgrades'

To verify that you are the true owner of the forum, we need you to verify your admin username and password.
It is not necessary that it be the main admin account, but if you could create an account for this purpose, it would be nice.

We cannot set up your TLD or advanced hosting until we hear back from you.

More advanced hosting information is avalible at:
http://www.freeforums.org/advanced.php

Thanks for using FreeForums.org!

DO NOT SEND YOUR PASSWORD!!!!!!

Freeforums admins have access to all forums anyway and it is someone who wants your passwords to get into your forum to destroy it.

I know, I got this E-Mail also. I have seen the Network-Admin when I had member pruned one of our forums.

I haven't gotten it yet, but I haven't gotten enough points yet either. lolz...

I don't think that has anything to do with how many points you have as some people knew it was a scam as they hadn't even completed 1 offer.

Ive recieved almost the exact same email, and then my forum was hacked.
But i didnt even reply...

I didnt get it but freeforums are very slow and have had server crashes over the past few months

This happened a long time ago, although if you get something like this I would suggest reporting it to Division or Jackal on Freeforums.org

There is a new one now
hacker.webp
If you receive this DO NOT go to the link it says as hey will take over your forum and delete everything.

Jackal and Division will never need your username and password as they have a hidden admin account on every forum.

Just as an update to this, we know who was behind the attacks and it has been dealt with.

Thanx for the warning Fowler I've warned the admins on my site about these so we can be vigilant.

thanks for the warning. I dont think that to many people would fall for this, but someone might not be paying attention and screw up.

Don't give them the opportunity. They can easily and if were smart enought, Use a free fake mass mailing software like mailboy 2004, I have used this to use for my Forum so I don't have to go modifying stuff through my CP at Toehosting cause I never use it.

In my emails, I always attach that emails are never sent from anything other than [email protected] and that at the bottom of each email the Members name and details are mentioned.

But otherwise if that is not there, it is definitely a scam. never had this problem but they are pathetic losers for even attempting this crap and should be punished...

Sorry to hear about this fowler and thanks for the ups. ~razz~
