The past day or so, we've had freezing rain. Well, I started thinking. Does freezing rain mean that it's raining and freezes in mid-air, or does it freeze once it hits the ground?

Note: I've posted this on several forums. I think the answers could be very interesting.

It freezes before it falls, and melts slightly on the way down. I guarantee you that is right.

In December 2008, we got a nasty ice storm and caused the power to go out around here for about a week. It was tough since it gets cold really fast without any heat.

I thought it was like a mix of rain and ice, but it did freeze on the fround. I don't know, i'm not a weather expert?

The rain does freeze in mid air (hence why you see it bounce) and then it melts a little bit and then it will refreeze causing it to stick to roads, buildings, etc.

Better than 3 straight days of 35-45C heat.
Only if there is no AC, and I live in Southern California. We get that kind of heat for 2+ weeks at a time.

But the sun is different there. Its a radiator here, more of an oven there 🙂
