Fresh forum starts?

Do you think fresh starts for forums can be helpful? I opened mine in September of 2007. It's got almost 3000 posts, a very meager amount.

Do you think a fresh start would help if I started promoting again?

Yes, I think you should start fresh.
It gives you a change to change forum script, domain name and re-design everything.

I'm honestly considering a new start. The current one is dead, might be a good idea to start new, but archive the current forum.

It's good to hold onto a domain if it has PR, alexa rankings and yahoo backlinks ^^

As in, I start a completely new forum. (Although, make a public archive of the current forum)

Then, start mass promoting.

Hmm...well, I think you should choose that option yourself and trust your judgements on it.

I wouldn't say making a fresh start is good under any circumstances. I remember I was part of a general chat forum once, about the same size as this forum. One day the admin randomly decided to make a fresh start, all my 2,000 posts were lost.

It felt like all my efforts were a huge waste of time, all the reputation I had got was gone and all the classic topics got lost and had to be started again. It was enough to make me leave, I didn't fancy putting in all the effort again just so a year down the road he could start a fresh again.

If there isn't a real need to start fresh (If you were hacked / database corrupted)...don't! ~smile~

It's just a bit hard to promote because many places ask the the opening date.

But, I'm not restarting. Ever. ~wink~

If your forum is completely dead, maybe it would be time to clear out all the old threads and archive them and start promoting. Send out a mass email, do contests 🙂

You know just like we do there is a great media here for promotion.
All you have too do is put forth the effort to start that promotion and boom you will have activity again.
