I see a lot of people who mention you have to use FTP software to edit things on your server, and I have never used a FTP software other than once.

I have always used the file manager that comes with my cPanel. How many of you guys actually use the file manager, too; and what is the benefit, for those who don't know - like myself - of using FTP clients rather than the file manager?

I was considering going file manager-only because of SourceForge bundling adware in their installers, and since FileZilla is hosted by SourceForge, but SF decided not to do that anymore, so I'm using FTP again.

It's definitely easier if you're uploading lots of files.

I prefer using the File Manager within cPanel. FTP is a pain sometimes connecting.

I've never used File Manager nor FTP rather I've used SCP over SSH (commonly referred to as SFTP) that's because I've always used a VPS.

I've honestly never heard of SCP. 😵 Is it similar to the FTP clients?

FTP by far. It's faster, more secure, and honestly a TON more stable when uploading files or folders (so I've found).

I came here to say the same thing

I use cPanel 100% of the time as well. The code editor works fine for what I need as well, small edits or insertions. I have used FileZilla once or twice to try it out and because a staff member needed access to certain files via FTP. I know some people love FZ but I found it way more confusing.

Depends on the circumstance for me.
I mean if I only have a few files to upload and I'm already in the panel then I'll likely just use the file manager.
If I'm not in the panel already and I don't have a huge number of files then it's kind of a toss up and I'll use whichever I feel like. (Sometimes it's FTP if I just want to upload the files, othertimes I might use the panel so I can also grab a backup of the sql or something while I'm at it. )
If I've got a number of files to upload (and they're not spread out across multiple folders) then I'll use FTP.
If I have a lot of files/folders spread out then I might use FTP and File Manager (use FTP to mass upload the large chunks then file manager to upload the ones in specific spots).
