When you first hire a staff member, do you give them full moderator privileges immediately? I generally do not. I would rather see them prove themselves before they get full moderator privileges.

Nope. I have a trial-moderator group called "interns" that they get placed into first.

I do, however I never promote anyone that haven't known fairly personally for at least a couple years. I'm quite picky with my senior staff, and there has never been an abuse of power.

I do however make sure to read through moderator logs almost daily, to ensure that, and they know I do it.

I usually hire people as Forum-Specific moderators who can't issue infractions. If they show promise, they become a global mod. 🙂

I start them off with limited powers first of all, so that they don't get too ahead of themselves and show that they are trustworthy. Nothing worse than a Mod turing rogue on you and wrecking your forum.

I do actually. However I normally hire people who I know or are staff on another site that I am on and base the performance.

Sometimes I'll take away certain permissions, but it depends on the person and what permissions I think they might need to hold off on until I know they are responsible enough to use it, or trained well enough to use it.

And deleting topics (not soft deleting) is something I do not allow anyone to do so if worse case scenario happens, I can usually fix it, whereas if they had the ability to delete topics permanently I might be screwed. 😛

I pick my moderators wisely, although few of them have had to resign.

And, yes, I do give them full privileges. I've known each of them well enough to be convinced that they'd do their jobs right. One of them initially didn't take his job seriously at all, but after talking some sense into him, he's now being more attentive to his role.

I would withhold the ban hammer before anything since those can normally leave a scar on members in a tight situation. Though in some communities, it will actually work out better if you release access to individual mod tools as time goes on, if you're having a set up training area for your moderators.

I do, even so When i certainly not promote anyone who have not identified relatively privately with regard to a minimum of a few decades. Now i am very particular having the elderly workers, as well as there's certainly not been a abuse involving energy.

I do even so be sure to read through moderator firelogs almost daily, to ensure that, and they understand I do the idea.

They're generally given full global mod permissions at first. They would have proven themselves beforehand and deserved to be a full fledged mod. Haven't had any problems yet by taking this approach. 😛

we usually take a lot of things into account before considering sharing the banhammer. xD
