I guess there aren't too many of these, but they do exist. ๐Ÿ˜›

How would you feel if you could be a full time admin? Do you think it would get boring, or would it be the most awesome job ever? In particular, I guess I'm thinking about the people who work on the forums of large companies, like the Community Management team of an MMO like RuneScape. Those guys get paid to ban people all day, process reports, etc. ๐Ÿ˜› I guess also there are a few people who can live off of the income of their website, although I imagine there are more of the former than the latter, since a forum would have to be really, really big to fully live off of.

I feel like being a full time admin would be fun for a while, but I feel like it would get boring really fast. I mean it could possibly be like a video game forum and they want you to play games at the same time so that you can interact with the forum. I guess that could be pretty cool.

I would probably like that job in the beginning, but I'm thinking it might get boring after a while. after all, there is only so much you can do on a forum. If the forums was rally unique or had a lot to do besides the forum that might not happen. I would probably try to focus on growing my forum and making money off of it that way.

I've known a few of these! Usually, they're making a pretty decent amount of money, but it's almost never close to what you could get at a real job. I think a lot of full time admins are partly retired and have another source of regular income, because I can only think of a few forums that could possible bring in five figures a year.

I can't imagine what kind of websites can give a payment big enough to support one's life (not including a family). If that can happen I guess the full-time administrator can still stand the boring days running the forum. Otherwise, I'd say it's close to impossible since there is even a limit to management business or posting around. They will need other things to do to avoid boredom. ๐Ÿ˜›

I've actually been a full time forum admin before. It was for an old sports forum which got a lot of traffic. A lot of people think it would get boring after a while, but believe me it doesn't. Once you get paid for it, you look at it in a whole different way. You interact more with the members, your happier and the job doesn't become boring, it becomes more exciting. You start thinking at ways of progressing.

Of course, I could never live of the wage, but it was another good source of income. Definitely worth getting into if you can.

That's an interesting information, thank you for sharing! Those should actually be done by other kind of administrators as well, but anyway. How exactly was it different from being a 'normal' administrators? Had you never felt bored? And if you did, what did you do to improve the mood?

It was totally different. If you are a volunteer admin, you can come on at any time of the day, leave at any time of the day and you can even leave tasks until the last minute. When you are paid for the position, everything changes. You are paid for your time and you must make sure you are on the forum for the time you are paid for. Tasks are done as and when required and not left until you have spare time to do it. A lot of things change when you are paid for the position. You feel inclined to help the forum more because if the forum goes down, so does your pay.

FootyFan, you do make a valid point. Plus, if you are being paid then you are less likely to give up on it as easy. Also, I know administrators that have gotten bored with their forum when they aren't getting paid to run their forum. Will getting paid for managing your forum change that or is it still a possibility when your forum is bringing in an income?

That sounds pretty fun, but I'm a bit skeptical on whether or not one could actually live off of it.

Apparently it will be hard to be able to live off of it since the ratio of supply and demand may not be well balanced. But it does give a certain push to our motivation to work harder for the website, no? ๐Ÿ™‚

I would love to be a full time admin - implying that this is my job and I make money off of it. I'd probably have to have more than own forum/site, but given that it's my job, I'd have the time for that.

There are plenty of people that do this for blogs, and I'm sure several do it for forums too (though I'd imagine they have the forum attached to a site in most cases).

I feel that with every job there would be a novelty with the role at first but being absolutely commuted to doing it would soon become tiring. For example administrators of forums like ForumPromotion can retire if they want to move on or if they don't enjoy the job as much in later years so yes it must be fun but may quickly becoming boring.

It would be great if you were being paid a lot of money or your forum was massive that was probably earning more money than you would earn doing an outside job

Yeah I guess so, but would you want it as a full time job? Especially for such a large community like the MMO ones...

-- 17 May 2015, 17:01 --

I think this is not be a bad job. You can get bored with any job because you will most likely be doing something very similar if not the same. If someone is willing to pay me a good amount to be a full time admin then I don't mind.

To live off income from a forum, you will need a very active forum. The forum will need to get a lot of traffic or have some secondary sources of income.

This actually is my career goals. ๐Ÿ˜› I would love to be a full-time admin, I'm was a full time admin once, just without the paycheck perk that usually comes with a job.

Having a full time admin means you have someone there, being paid, to manage the community, so it's not like you'll have to worry about activity or when they can be on or when they are available. That and you can judge their performance without them arguing, since you are paying them. ๐Ÿ˜›

I'd love to be a full time admin personally. #CareerGoals
