It costs money running a forum unless you use free forum hosting and everything but that way you won't get far and when it comes to moving to a new host there a few problem. So, how much does your forum need each month/year to keep it going and where do you get the money from to fund it?

I use reward sites and cashback sites to get the extra money and it also helps me to fund the forum, and with that I'm getting a better host and domains and few mods installed.

Right now I'm using a VPS which runs $50 a month, which I pay for out of pocket.

Well I have to pay over £160 a year for my Futurama forum but I can ususally get a few donations to help out and also Google Adsense helps as well. Anything I can't get from members or Google I put in myself. I have no problem with that as it is something I enjoy.

My hosting runs $25 a month but my Google ad revenue covers that easily.

It costs me about $30 yearly to run my main site, $50 overall to run all my sites. I pay for it practically out of pocket.

I pay £12.95 for a resellers account which i have my forums on, my web hosting which pays for my monthly cost straight away. And few other sites. But if need be i pay straight out my pocket.

I usually fund my site by money I earn IRL.

Sometimes I get donations that I put forth to help run it.

Free Forum Hosting Can Get You A Long Way As Long As It's Their Own Software. Proboards for example is it's own software. And you can get a cheap domain name, also not out of your pocke. Just post and earn in the market place.

I spend at least $200 a year on Domains, Hosting and Advertising. Usually I pay most out of pocket and the rest with ads.

$40 a year for hosting and $10 for domain renewal.

I did buy a vb license but I wont have to renew it because of their pricing structure change. If I want vb5 when it comes out in a few years, I will have to buy a license for that.

vB is losing popularity with the introduction of newer, and more modern scripts. And older forum softwares have changed dramaticly compared to vB
