I would suggest you to provide some online demo or maybe host the game online to make your website big. People will join to run and play the game online with multiplayer options.
Actually never though of that and sounds like a great idea 🙂
At the moment i'm on a low budget otherwise I be spending loads in to the site but what would be a good contest that wouldn't require money? might be a good way to get things going
Be careful when running contests to try and gain activity. In my experience, the activity shot up for the duration of the contest but then went down like a lead balloon as soon as it ended.
Running a contest is fine, but you need something to keep the members coming back after it is over. You say you're planning on launching a blog? Make sure the articles you write are of a good quality, and try to encourage comments to be made on them. This will hopefully entice discussion and keep the site active.
Actually you have a good point the forums is already good quality besides content which i'm working on but I don't know how to promote it without it being called 'spam' :/
i'm launching the blog/news section once I get some activity.
You can create your own games using tools like Stencyl to promote your forum. You can also post trailers of new games on your forums.
Or you can allow gaming groups (guild/clans/alliances...) to create their own discussion forum in your forum (as a sub forum) for free.
My first thought about spud gaming was something like throwing potatoes around or spud guns and such. 🙂 Nothing further from the truth, although you have to dig around a bit on the site to understand what it is. Most people have no idea anyway, so you will need to explain, advertise and get the word out somehow.
the name Facebook didn't blend in with there site and look how far they got, its good to be unique 🙂 not something like gaming forums it would just sound like another gaming forum.
Don't lose heart. If you think your name have potential then keep kicking with it. In Australia one of the the most known gaming stores is called EB Games, apparently EB was because it started as an "Electronic boutique" but not many know this so basically the first part of the name makes not much sense. So if you like it keep confident in it. If people see you confident they will be more willing to see your side of things.
If you want to get ahead your competition you need to know them, for that you also need to know your ideal target. Try getting familiar with other gaming sites and ask yourself what things do you think they could do better and what things are what pulls you. This is not to steal their ideas but to understand what could work with your place.
I think you got a good amount of suggestions with the contents and games. I also think the blog is a good idea. This overall sounds like a pretty ambitious project. I hope you have a already formed a dedicated staff that can help you lift the activity and the projects. Best of luck!
Spud is actually my nickname so that's where I actually got the first part of the name from and to me it sounded different but catchy 🙂
I do have another idea which I am in the middle of developing which is create your own clan which is similar to the facebook group but it will allow you to customize your clan more to the point.
Thank you all for the suggestions I will try some of them and see how they go 😀
