I think the rules for most of the places that do a game of the year are:

Must be released in 2012
Must be released by a certain date
And many more I should think

@Flux I think Fifa Street 4 will be a sports game winner but not an overall contender for GOTY

Looking at the amount of good games coming out this year such as Diablo 3, and Mass Effect 3 just to name 2 out of the very many!!
It is going to be tough to pick this year.

Isn't the new Bioshock coming out this year? My money's on that.

Didn't realize how much big titles are coming out this year. Of course, most, if not all of them are sequels, so we pretty much know what to expect from them.

Yes the new Bioshock is coming out but not until later and so is the new Halo I think.

No new series games are coming out until 2013, well any good ones anyway.
