Geeks Hut gets a new theme!

I have today added a new theme, taking away our theme before which was beginning to get a bit bland and not feel as professional as this current one.

Geeks Hut has updated it’s look, just days before the blogs first birthday. This new theme allows us to look more professional while keeping up with the latest web-standards. We will be working on this theme all of next week to fine tune it based on your guys experiences.

This theme isn’t something we will have forever. We listened to our members and you guys said the site was slow. We didn’t think it had to do anything with our hosting, because we could get a fresh WordPress installation to load up in 232ms which is very fast. So Matthew and I went back to the drawing board and decided it must be the theme which was slowing us down, because it used flash and a lot of JQuery. We even noticed a spike in CPU usage when the featured image changed!

This theme allows you to also view the blog on your tablet or smartphone and the site will adjust to fit your display.

There will be a few errors in the site until more articles are written. Because of the change in theme we will be having to tutor our staff again to make sure they’re getting their articles posted where they want them to be displaying.

We would love to hear your opinion on our new look, because we will be tweaking to make sure our readers are happy with our new look!

I agree the new theme looks very good. However, I honestly feel that I preferred the old one. It seemed easier to view the content of the site on the old theme. That is just my personal opinion however, and to be honest I'm often not a big fan of changes I see on sites.

The blog still looks great and I hope it continues to be successful for you.
