My own forum niche is general chat which is VERY hard to attract new users to. Mostly because people are very loyal to their favorite general chat forum and use them to socialize with long time online friends and don't hop around as you get with members of more niche forums. Most of the people who are on my forum are friends. I'm just finding it difficult to get non-friends to join. SEO is not really a good strategy as there are really huge general chat forums competing that have way more members. At this point, i'm considering just scrapping the forum or going with a sub-niche, or some kind of angle on general chat. Looking for possible ways to revamp the forum to get it kick started again.
