I've seen copyrights for around $150 and trademark stuff for around $500. Anyway, do you feel it's worth it? How would you get it done? Would you use an online or offline company (say a local lawyer)?

Myself, I am a few weeks from finalizing the copyright on my drumming material (drumming forum, Patreon page). Anyway, I'm not in a paranoid state of people copying me. I just want protection against people using that claim against me!

I've actually already done my research on this. I'd do it and I'd do it online. It's not that pricey. It's worth it for protecting you against copyright claims on either side.

Some opt for the Creative Commons thing. Anyone try it? How do you think it's different?

I was actually looking into it myself as well.

The only reason why I was looking into the trademark stuff is that there are two websites out there that both do the same thing and have the exact same domain, the only difference is, one is .com the other being a .net. I own one of them.

Unless You want to register trademarks in every country, (Which will cost a lot for an individual person) You will still have trouble with the trademark. I think as a Canadian, I would register in just two countries. Canada (Obviously) and USA. But then that doesn't protect me against Europe.

The other website is based in Europe. So that wouldn't do me any good. On top of that, say the website was based here in Canada, and I did manage to get a trademark without them fighting it, They would still be legally allowed to use it because they were doing business with that name prior to me obtaining the trademark.

So in my case. I just decided against getting one altogether.

Trademarks are a bit more expensive than a copyright - I think. Protection in so many nations will add up!
