Hey everyone. I started my forum (http://www.gaming-haven.net/forum) a few months back, and I am struggling to get new members. The main focus of my forum is online tournaments and player reviews. It has been hard to keep it active though, because we need quite a few members to get tournaments going. Does anyone have any ideas how to increase our member base so we can start playing some tournaments?

Thanks

I would suggest posting an occasional how-to and feature some game reviews by the forum staff. Both of these should hwlp you out from a SEO standpoint, at least.

Thanks for the feedback, I will look at doing that.

I have also noticed I have had a lot of guest over the last few hours, but no one has signed up. What reasons could there be, and there are probably many, why they are not signing up?

You'll want to save up some FP cash and get into the exchange area and spend a bunch for posts. You can hit up my thread and make a lot of FP by posting and then buy a lot of posts from people who post for cheaper

Other ways you can get members is by affiliating and partnering with other sites.

Here my breakdown for you:

Your idea is good, but you need to improve on the following:
- Forum Skin
- Forum Logo
- Forum Software

Your forum skin looks ok, but for that type of forum I would get a different skin something like: http://www.skinbox.net/demo/index.php?s ... dc5015a024

Forum logo needs to be changed looks like a beginner has created this banner and the admin hasnt put enough work into this site for it to have a good logo.

Forum Software is ok but you cant have big ads right under your logo driving people away. I also reccomend you get either IPB or vBulletin.

Thanks. Its nice to get some honest feedback, so I know how I can improve.

I would like to use IPB, but my only problem is it cost something $175. And im not sure I want to pay that much for something that may not get any members.

I will take a harder look into it now though. Thanks

Thanks for the feedback. I have changed my theme now, and I believe it looks much better. I have also changed the forum for PhpBB to Invision

Thanks 🙂

I think I have finished changing it graphically now. The only thing I am planning on changing is the header. Hopefully I will see some more people signing up now 🙂

Wow, the theme looks very awesome! I think the site is more or less ready, you just need more members.

Exchanges might be a good idea. I'm not sure if this method would work for you, but it worked for me back then a bit: go visit other gaming sites, leave a comment and a link to your site. Don't just comment randomly; give insights and maybe connect it to your forum too.

Nevertheless, keep advertising, and all the best. 🙂
