I have people reading my blog, my stats say so, but it's very rare that one of them leaves a comment. I usually try to end my post with a discussion point or question for readers to comment on (though not always) and I'm not sure what else to do. I don't particularly wants tons of discussion taking place below the post, but a comment or two would be nice to see.

I've had the same problem too and I was hoping more replies would arise so I am answering in hopes we can get more posts.

Now as for me being the reader, sometimes a simple comment about how much it is appreciated people take a minute to leave their comments have pushed me to leave one when I wasn't planning to. I usually don't post them when I feel what I type is a short comment or with little value. I guess I am still in forum mode and I forget bloggers really just want to feel there is someone out there for sure and have some sort of feedback in how are they doing. 🙂

I think it also helps when the note I am reading ends with a open question encouraging people to share their views more so than simply giving the news.

Honestly, it's taken me like five time to try to write a response to this. I keep trying to think of how I get people to comment and it can sometimes take a lot. It's not as simple as some people think it is and it can take time to get a steady flow, haha.

Leaving questions at the end of your post can be really helpful to encourage readers to comment. I do this on every one of my posts and it does seem to help, but one thing that I've noticed is that sometimes people don't want to be the first person to comment, so they end up not commenting at all. I was reminded by this when reading Kaynil's post above. Sometimes if you have a starting post it will encourage other readers to comment as well.

Also, how often do you comment on other blogs and network with other bloggers? Generally, when you post on someone's blog they'll return the favor and comment on yours. This doesn't always happen, but it does seem to help. I've noticed since connecting with other bloggers I've started getting more comments on posts. Not saying you have to be good friends, but having "blogging buddies" can be helpful for sure.

I know that you said that you are getting visitors, but I would also consider promoting your blog and posts more. Obviously with more visitors and readers, the more likely it is that you'll find people who leave comments. I'd suggest using social media to promote, which has been a huge asset to me thus far.

I really hope this helped a least to some extent. I'm just going off of my own experiences and what's worked for me. I wish I had a guaranteed way of getting comments to share, but I don't. 🙁

My best piece of advice is to just keep with it and be patient. Comments will come, it just takes time.

Whoa, awesome. If this is true, then I could try and comment myself there with a fake profile or something like that. Anyway great advice, much appreciated!

Well, people do it with forums to get more replies to topics. I suppose a blogger could do the same with comments. I think it's a bit deceiving though, personally.

I honestly think that you would be better off having a friend or fellow blogger make the first comment rather than creating a comment yourself.

You can also order a Package or do an Exchange to get some starter comments if you're having a really rough time getting comments.

I'm glad I was able to give some helpful advice though, haha.

Oh, something else I thought about, try to always reply to those who comment on your blog. It makes them feel more welcomed and it shows that you appreciate the time they took to write the comment.

Having a friend to do that is kind of awesome, but in my case that wouldn't be such a good idea. I write a lot of blog posts and asking them to comment on them is not something I would do. 😀

And yeah I always try to reply to the comments which come on my blogs! 🙂
