Getting Results From Traffic Exchanges
Squeeze the most traffic out of your work!

Overview;
Many people have heard the term "Traffic Exchange" used to define sites that you earn "credits" by viewing other websites, and then apply these credits to earn traffic back to your webpage. While these systems can do wondrous for all types of websites, it's important to understand what methods turn the most traffic into buyers, members, or return users.

How traffic exchanges work;
The process is simple, you view another user's webpage and you earn xCredits. Once you have earned a certain amount of these credits you can assign them to your sites and start to receive traffic back. Some exchanges offer a 1:1 ratio, or 1 visitor for every page you view. Most modern exchange programs have placed a timed limit, or required amount of time you must view another's page for it to earn you credits. Afterall, what good is 500 guests if they only view your page for 2 seconds?

Splash Pages;
One of the greatest ideas ever developed are splash pages. Instead of showing visitors your direct site, you set up a middleman page outlining the reasons why they should visit your site and become a buyer / user. These pages can be as simple as a html page with an image in the middle saying "click here" or as advanced as http://www.freedomainguide.info/ a site that "teaches" people how to use a rewards site to gain free domain names. Since people only see these pages for a short amount of time it's often best to make them extremely appealing visually. If it's ugly, people won't bother to click through to your real site!

Audio // Video
If you are an active user of traffic exchange programs you will notice that often times sites embed auto-start audio and video to help "grab" a browser's attention. While it is often true that these things can help get people to scan your page for the "mute" button, it can also be a huge turnoff. I, for example, ignore every page that has audio, as I think it's annoying. I even disable my browser's plugins at times while surfing! I usually try to steer clear of ever embedding audio and video in my sites, but if you do decide to, make sure it's not set to auto-start upon the page load, you'll just annoy people 😉

Looking to give it a try?
By far the best Traffic Exchange out there in my opinion is EasyHits4U. If you plan to try things in this guide i'd love it if you could join with my referral link, but if not then it's fine as well. EasyHits4U offers a 1:1 ratio, banner ads, text links, and they even pay you $0.30 for every 1,000 sites you surf! You can cashout via PayPal at $3 😉

Yes this guide is rather short. I may expand it later, or I may just leave it as is. Feel free to Comment / Rep below 🙂

Nice post, although splash pages are a huge no no. Repped 🙂
Care to tell why? I've heard both ways on it, and my Free Domain Guide site works pretty well. I know that i've clicked an a lot because of good designed splash pages, however i've also skipped a lot due to ugly ones. I'm interested in learning it really, all thoughts on the matter count 😛

Well they look nice and dandy, some with flash etc. I'll give you that 🙂 But the point of them is.. well there is no point. Most users find them annoying and they don't provide any value other than to increase the number of clicks a user must perform to get to the main content 😛

While they may slow you down when making a rush to the content, they can also provide you with a lot of information. For example a forum, as these aren't webpages and wouldn't usually have information on why to join listed in plain site on the main page, a splash page could outline the perks of joining the community.

Yeah true, I was going by most splash pages that only contain the text 'ENTER' and a huge image or flash file. For them to be effective and crawled well, full, keyword rich content will need to be present. As you said - the outline perks of joining the community could be a good example.

Well any page that only has the words "Enter Here" will probably not get many clicks.

The best splash pages look awesome, outline the "key" reasons (not a bunch, select few) for joining, and appeal to the type of user you are looking for (no porn ads if you're looking for affiliate marketing...usually 😉 )
