Getting Traffic?

I think the best way is to just join a lot of different forums and post your link in your signature. Just get your website out there.
 
Gaming websites are one of the hardest to get member bases, The most successful gaming websites all use Youtube and have created funny and even montages or something new to grab audience attention.

This and the fact that the gaming website niche is an extremely hard and competitive niche to really become successful in, with a large amount of well placed gaming sites already founded like IGN.
 
Try and stand out from the crowd, do or offer something different. thats the key. Buy a .com or .net domain to!
 
Just an idea, look into the music genome project, then try and set up something like a video game genome project. Could be extremely successful in helping people find new games.
 
Ok thanks, Robin and I already had some tutorials up and running video tutorials but i think game reviews and video reviews of games and maybe gadget reviews would be even better :O now only get this to the people..
 
Biggest thing is to get a good .com or .net domain, like midnight said. .tk is not very professional exspecially to gamers, because they know its a free tld. Then try trading links with game sites and even go so far as to get a xbox live account and make your username the same as your website, ex. gamerhaven.com ... and gain members that way. because after all that is who you want...

Get a twitter account also, and follow everyone you can, and they will in turn follow you and you can tweet forum updates to drive more users.

Just advertise it get your forum out there. If people like it they will join and contribute but if they didnt even know your forum existed then how are they going to contribute in the first place 😛
 
I am going to try building a gamer base of youtube as well. i have ordered the hardware which should come soon. Then i can start getting some nice videos up 😀

Although I am also trying to create facebook groups which have catchy, game related names. I am hoping to build these up to say 100,000 members then post my forums up a couple of times and hopefully get a couple hundred good members 😀
 
Try Twitter.... I've gotten a lot of good members (about 20) in the past month by getting involved in conversations on financial planning. If you did some research and started following people interested in your game(s) then a good majority of those people will follow you back. Then 1-2x a day drop a plug for your forum and I think you'll be surprised at the quality of members you get. You may not get quantity but you'll get some quality that will help your forum grow. Just my 2 cents.

try joining some web traffic too. there are lot of web traffics that can drive away traffics to your website for free..
 
i have done a forum site on various subjects from movies, to pc wots th ebest way to get people to join a site like that?

You need to be careful with these, if you have Adsense on your forum. Google do not allow sites which display their Adsense ads, to get traffic in this way.
 
Try the following:

1. Get a .com/.net

2. Join gaming topsites

3. Facebook is a powerful tool, either join it or if you already are on facebook, and have all your friends/family/everyone u met/havent met add them. Add people from your email and etc.. Then post links in "what your doing" section. Your facebook must be legit though, post pic and everything.Dont just make a blank one.
4. Get affiliates

5. [This is a real shady method but..] Go to forums/freelance websites and ask for custom graphics "matching your forum" with your forum url and etc.. This gets good amount of visitors if you know where to look 😉

Also..try to make you forum different, dont just create a general chat forum and expect everyone to come to to talk about general chat or whatever. Create something and give out prizes.

Contest Example: Best video game guide. People have to record a game guide where they play and beat some record or w.e. Winner gets $10 amazon coupon. You post all those videos on youtube with your link on them. Once people see some fun stuff going on your forum they will join. People like fun, not just strict general gaming chat.

You could try going to other gaming sites, and using their personal message feature to put out some invites.
