Gifts or Cash?

Not really.

Still, a legitimate query. Do you prefer to receive gifts or cash on birthdays/holidays? On the other end, do you prefer to give gifts or cash to your peers and family on such occasions?

I'm strongly Atheist so I don't celebrate Christmas, I get money for New Years Eve instead. 🙂

I think cash is the best way to go because then at least that person can get what they really want or save up.

The only difference though is that if you give a gift i feel it has more meaning rather then handing them a 100$ bill.

I'm totally not used to receiving or giving cash as presents. With the exception of Chinese New Years or such event where it's already a part of an old tradition. I know it's better to get or give cash as that way it can be spent for something someone really needs, but somehow it's not comfortable for me, haha. So I prefer gifts. Or cakes!

I'll usually prefer to give or receive cash as it can be used on exactly what is wanted rather than, a gift which might turn out to not be so useful.

Although cash is more "practical", I personally like gifts.

They are gifts which come from your beloved family and friends, and can be memories for many years to come.

While having another $100-200 in your bank account won't really mean much.

I agree with Alexander. I prefer gifts because because the holidays should be about family not about how much money you can line your wallet with.

Not judging anyone else this is just my viewpoint on it. And even if the gifts are useless the fact that someone bought it with you in mind is something money can't really buy... wait okay maybe you can buy that with money but I digress.

I usually give out GC's that can be used in several shops. At least they get to choose what kind of clothes or accessories they want. 🙂

For myself, it depends on whom the gift is for. I tend to just give gift cards to the children in my family whereas I'll give tangible gifts to the adults and the like.

When it comes to receiving, I do not mind which.

I preferred to give gifts rather than cash to my nieces, nephews, sister, brothers, aunties, uncles and friends but for my father it is a combination of gifts and cash.

For myself - I am not expecting anything - but for those who would love to give - of course I would accept it. I preferred HOLIDAY accommodation and plane tickets for 2 persons :lol: Thanks in advanced!

I always find that buying them gifts never work because I get them the wrong thing because I do not want to ruin the surprise for them by asking them what they want. However I do not celebrate Christmas I do respect Religion's of everyone, however much I do not like the Religion, you are all entitled to your belief(s). I find that it's always best to give them cash so they can buy their own things instead of me buying them something they don't like or spoiling it by asking them what I should get them. 🙂

It makes a lot more sense to get cash and then buy whatever you want with it. However, I understand that people often want to buy an actual gift, wrap it up, see you unwrap it, etc. and I myself enjoy that as well, so I gifts are just as nice. I won't turn either of them down. 😉

I'm atheist too, but still celebrate Christmas. I prefer cash, then we go out and buy the gift I wanted with that, or save up. I give presents because they prefer that. 🙂
