Gimp issue for Mac

I have a Macbook OS X (10.5.8). Okay I just downladed/installed GIMP but when I open it no window appears and it just quits by itself. I'm not sure if I'm installing correctly or what but this happened with me when I tried installing Skype too.

Here are the procedures I did for installing:
1) Downloaded disk image (.dmg)
2) Dragged Gimp into Applications (after said Copying to Applications)
3) Ran the software

Now this is where the problem begins, it opens but I see no window and it quits. Any suggestions or solutions?

since it happened when you tried another software too then it appears to me like a OS problem.

It probably is. I'm still searching for a solution though.

The problem is you do not have x11 installed. Which can be downloaded here - http://xquartz.macosforge.org/trac/wiki

However an easier way to install gimp is through macports - http://www.macports.org/
