GIMP Tutorial
Ok so this is my first tut, please take it easy on me :wondering
Ok this is what we will be making
Stage1: Open a new project and make it 150x150 with a transparent background
Stage 2: Take a brush previously downloaded and resize it to fit inside your box, I've used a nice basic shape for this tutorial. Your project should now look similar to this:
Stage 3: Go to Layer > Transparency > Alpha To Selection
You will now see a dotted line around your brushing. Open your render/stock and copy it. Now go back to your brushing project and Right click > Edit > Paste Into This can also be done by going to Edit in the top bar and selecting paste into.
You will now notice that your image shows up onwhere but inside the dotted lines, position your image to where you think it looks good. You may need to go back into your original image window to resize it. You will now get something like this:
Stage 3 (Optional): Now that you have your image inside your brushing you can add some effects to it, I personally prefer Softglow which is what I have done here. Duplicate your current layer and on the top layer select; Filters > Artistic > Softglow. Leave it at standard settings and you will now see that it has become lighter. Set this layer to Overlay. Now toy with the opacity until it looks good for you. Your image should now be similar to this;
Stage 4: Now you need your image to stand out. Go to Filters > Light and Shadow > Drop Shadow Leave this at standard settings and select ok. Now you have a back shadow similar to this;
Stage 5: Now you add your text if you would like it and again to make it stand out Filters > Light and Shadow > Drop Shadow. Again leave at default settings and now you're done!!
