Giveaway Questions

For my craft forum I would like to have a giveaway of an item I will be making. My plan is to give everyone who registers on the site an entry into the drawing for a crocheted Pocket Shawl and I would use an online site that I've used before to draw Bingo numbers to give me a random name.

I was thinking I could maybe give up to 10 more entries when the members post on the site.

Besides word of mouth, what type of places can I go to in order to advertise this? Is 3 months too long for getting registrants? Or too short since I'm a small site?

What things should I consider when doing this?

Create eboook for say "Learn XYZ" then put that into the email list form and also invite them to forum. Keep them in loop of forum content using email list.

Do people really read emails from forums? I know I trash them immediately (sorry). In fact, I even prefer to opt out of any emails.
