Have you ever given up on a forum?
If so.. Why ?

I gave up on a promotion board as nobody was dedicated and it was very hard to run it. However, I turned it into a general discussion board and kept everyone's advertisements up. That way it wasn't all going to waste and the members and their post counts stayed.

I given up on my first forum because I made not knowing what to do and after I learn I want a fresh start.

I have gave up on most forums I have half made becuase I have thought would they work out, but hopefully in the future a new day;a new forum will come to mind.

yeah i have given up on a few of my forums and the first forum i created was a epic fail

People giving up on forums has become far too common these days. I guess it's because people see the success of big sites and expect to have a thriving member base, 1000 posts and 100 members over their first night - in addition to that people just haven't got patience.

Like a user said in a post here recently, blame it on the free hosts. The problem with forums on free hosts, using free domain names such as .co.cc is that there's nothing to lose. If they want to quit - so what? They won't be effected financially and at the end of the day it's not their problem. At least if you're paying for hosting / domain / software it gives you some kind of incentive to make your site a success.

I myself have given up on forums in the past, all have been offtopic chat forums, I gave up on the first one because even though we had got busy and had members coming in and registering and posting it soon started to go quiet and no matter how much I tried to make it work nobody seemed interested so in the end gave it up, my second one I wasn't really given a choice to be honest I had someone hacking it constantly, I knew it wasn't anyone on the site as I knew everyone who was on the site at the time, I searched for my url on google and found that the url had been used previous for a chat site so I put it down to it being the old owner of the url not liking the fact there was a new owner, however I could be wrong. I am now working on a new off topic chat forum in which I am hoping does well, but as has been said above it doesn't get busy over night so got a little way to go yet but hopefully I will get there.

One of the main reasons people give up on their forum is because they expect quick results. They will set their forum up, do some posting and promoting then expect it all to go well from then on. The fact is it doesn't. We was quite lucky because when we did start FP we did grow quite fast compared to other forums that started at the same time but we always and still do have to keep promoting and thinking of how to improve the forum. Since FP started I have lost count of how many times I have seen people open a forum then next week it will be closed because they cannot be bothered to try to make it work.

I have given up a forum due to wanting to concentrate on FP.

i only did this was because:
1) i hated the software
2) i had no posts a year after creation

A few which have died in the past.

Owned Headbangers Haven for 6 years now. There have been many times where i've nearly deleted it. Never given up on it though.

People think it's much easier than it is, and it did used to be much easier. Just one or two years ago, it was much easier to make a big forum.

To prove my point, http://donkeyschillout.forumsmotion.com/

Put no promotion/effort into it at all and look what happened. 5k posts is pretty good for a newcomer to foruming 😛

I admire you for that 😉.

Ive had to give up a forum yes, it was out of my control, i loved it and no matter what the activity was, it was still my forum. However for reasons which i don't remember now i had to close it :S.

I have gave up on them in the past , I am thinking of giving up on my current forum now , as no one is ever happy with it you get some people saying its good some people saying it's bad , who do I believe? I am staring to think on giving up.

You believe in what you want to do, and don't let other's comments discourage you. If you feel you want to keep running your forum, then by all means do so, but don't give up on it because of a few nasty comments.

I've closed countless forums due to not having the time and not being able to trust anyone running it while I'm away. I have learnt from my mistakes and past experiences and wish to take them forward and help others that are becoming like me, a failure 😛
