Gmail does seem to be the email provider of choice for many forum administrators, but I actually use Hotmail. I know, not much better, but I prefer hotmail as it's a lot easier to use than Gmail when it comes down to it.

I hope this does not affect the security of Adsense since Adsense users usually use their Gmail account to log into Adsense. It will sure be horrible if a hacker suddenly changed the shipping or bank account direct deposit to the hackers when cheques get sent out to the rightful owners.

They hacked individual accounts, not everyone. Just certain Chinese Political Officials and others. It was Phishing. So unless you clicked on some bogus link and typed your password, you were not effected. Phishing is not hacking. They didn't hack Gmail, they just took password from people who gave them.
