Have you ever dared to share or even make your own political posts on the social media platforms for your site?

As long as you're not too political. If you go too political, you gonna alienate the followers. They didn't subscribe or follow you for that, they followed you for the content. But when time is right you can mix politics with the subject... but that is hard to do.

No, i try not to. My site's twitter account is the only twitter account I got now since X banned my main for some BS reason.

I also tend not to post much on my site's twitter either. A lot of it is done through automated things for threads and the like.

Are we talking about Elon's X or Twitter (pre-acquisition)? Jeez.

If it's on brand for your community's niche, then it could make sense to lean into related political discussions.

The power, beauty, and risk of communities is allowing related discussions.

I'm notorious for not starting any thread let alone a political thread but that changed a week or two ago.

The main headline in the UK all week has centred on the biggest miscarriage of justice in our country's history. Over the last 20-25 years at least 700 people have been criminalized due to a defective computer system along with a cover up that goes right to the head of our government. It took a recent TV drama to reveal the full horror of the situation and put it in the public domain.

The reason I felt it necessary to start a thread is because the general population is now under the misapprehension that people wrongly convicted are going to be fully compensated and that those responsible will be made to pay for the lies they told that resulted in the prosecutions. That scenario is highly unlikely for many reasons, too many to post here.

Nope, not on my forum, it's not the appropriate place to. If I'm on a forum that has a designated section I might create one though.

Unless you have a political forum, this is probably always a bad idea. Politics is a guarantee to alienate someone. If you don't have a targeted someone, you're just asking for trouble as a webmaster.

Elon's X. I was suspended under my SmokeyRev account for "violent speech" simply for making a joke on a video posted about people blocking freeways and major roads with their 'protests'. Simply said "Just keep driving, they'll move eventually if they were smart." Apparently that warrants a perma suspension LMAO.

Did you try to appeal it? I've heard stories like this that Elon overturned when he found out rouge employees were still acting like they were before his acquisition.

Yep. Sure did. Said it would stand. I still got my site's account though which is the more important one anyways.

Well that's nuts! I went there for a while just for promotion but it made me sick reading what is said there so I left. I guess it hasn't changed. Lol

Not really, my tech site will touch on net neutrality items and some other issues requiring "free web" and privacy protection, but it is more of a news reporting stance than pushing one side or the other. The same with the gaming side when it comes to censorship and items like gambling in games.

right? pretty tame compared to what i've seen being said about people and other things on there :/

If your brand isn't political by nature, it would normally be offputting to mix in your personal politics with your brand. Exceptions are if the political point is of such a fundamental nature that you would be OK with people against that point not wanting to engage with your brand anymore. I would include pro-LGBTQI+, anti-war and anti-racism to those exceptions, they are of such a pro-human and anti-autoritarian nature that they should be deemed as good views for a brand to hold.

Its not just about brand association with politics. Its just a divisive subject. My main account CarlosX360 is meant for everything related to my business, website(s), and everything related to me. I dabble with politics from time to time. Not every day. Its a matter of how you handle it. You need to know if the subject is controversial or not. You can test things, and if its bad. Backtrack and/or apologize (not under pressure or to the "mob," but in general.)

I certainly have political opinions I’ve been tempted to share, but I would never attach my personal beliefs to my site’s social media sites, unless it’s relevant to the site in question. Endorsing one candidate or the other… All you would be doing is aleinating the folks that don’t support that particular candidate. It’s best to just hush. 😛

It's not wise to go political on social media, even on a private account.

I don't go political on social media sites or my own sites. However, I have a desire to build a political forum
